Problems with Oron ...

Hey, I think I have used Oron before and I have downloaded some things off it in the past, but recently it tells me I must wait 2 hours and so many minutes.

I do.

Then I refresh the page and it says you must wait 4 hours.

Again I do.

Then it says wait 1 hour... and I just rage.
Does it hate me or something? I found something I really really want to download but it's only from Oron

Any help/advice?

with M_Oron you can pretty much count on a long wait between each download, link by link, until you finally get what you want

No no, that's the problem, there isn't even a wait, it's just, wait 4 hours before you can download anything more.

Last time I downloaded with them must have been about 4 months ago, AND from a different ISP as I was at a different home

I wait the time it asks, refresh and it tell me wait more, then I refreshed to see if it was just having a joke with me and lo' and behold, you must wait 2 hours.

Constant varied wait time.

As I understand it it depends on your ISP, the UK does not have a national firewall like China!

Since he is getting to the page and getting to do the captcha etc, he is clearly not being blocked!

Some UK ISPs like to save money by using a transparent web proxy, this means that all HTTP traffic from all their customers is redirected through their proxy servers without the customer's knowledge, permission, or control. This allows them to cache requests and save out-bound bandwidth from the ISP as a whole, and hence money. It can also speed up browsing for users of the ISP, but it has a down-side, everyone on the ISP appears to come from the same IP address, so sites like Oron that ration bandwidth based on IP, become unusable.

If I'm correct in my deductions, then a possible solution is to use HTTPS rather than HTTP, which, because it's encrypted, can't just be intercepted and redirected like HTTP can. If Oron allows it, try change the http:// at the front of the URL to https:// and see if that works.

It's interesting, as much as people complain about Oron, I've never had a problem with it.
Filesonic and especially Fileserve, however, have been somewhat unreliable recently. Something the d/l speed is so slow it takes me back to the days of dial-up.

I have exactly the same issue. Also some other other big players the end users have the same issue like Virgin and also Talk Talk.... So you are sadly not along.

Have a look at what "gb2000ie" says, as that IS what happens

It is just an annoying way of forcing you to pay for a PREMIUM membership, and then it WILL work!

See I don't encounter problems with Filesonic or Fileserve!

They are my favourite, as well as Rapidshare!

I dislike Oron because they have such sloooooooooow speeds for free downloads and such long waits in between downloads. I usually have to scroll though a dozen captchas before I can find one that is clear enough to read. I hate having to start all over and wait another 60 seconds if I get it wrong.

I won't subscribe because they are so expensive. With the current exchange rate between the euro and the U. S. dollar Oron cost about $100 a year. I can subscribe to both Fileserve and Filesonic for little bit more than that.
