I don't personally own one, but I got to play around with one for quite a while and I have a bunch of friends that have it. Here are my thoughts:
It's pretty damned awesome. It's almost like having a handheld PS3 (but without the slow loading times). It's a console with a lot of scope and a very wide range of possible uses in the future.
HOWEVER, there aren't many games out for it at the moment that are worth buying. Uncharted and Rayman Origins are the only 2 that really spring to mind at the moment. Little Big Planet if that's the sort of thing you're really into. The Mortal Kombat game is alright but you could get a better experience with it on the PS3.
Also, a lot of the features are a little gimmicky and you can easily feel that you are paying for tech that you don't want. The back touch screen seems a little awkward to use and is a little unnecessary. That being said, the front touch screen is crystal clear and very responsive.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you are required to have a memory card for it to save games on. They're pretty highly priced and are pretty small for what you'll be using it for (the 4GB cards are seeming to be the most popular). Also, don't go for the 3G version of the console. The uses of it are really limited and it would require a lot of expense for the upkeep of the data connection one you have it. It's also a lot more expensive for something you could just tether to your smartphone via Wi-Fi (assuming your smartphone is capable and you have a large data plan for it).
I would say the console is really worth a buy overall, but for now it's lacking enough titles to really grab you by the balls and drag you into the shop to buy it. Give it another 6 months or so and I think the console will be a solid must-have though.
If you do decide to pick it up in the near future, I would suggest you do so through Amazon.com as they tend to have the best deals at the moment for them (they are also discounting their memory cards at the moment by around $10 so worth a look there too!).
Hope that all helps
