Representatiion In Anime/Manga

As far as I can recall, the only gay characters in Anime were joke characters who were overexaggerated stereotypes.

Can you guys think of any characters that were good representations?

If you don't include the pure shounen-ai/shoujo-ai anime, my first thought would be Haruka Tenou and Michiru Kaiou from Sailor Moon. Unfortunately they were portrayed as cousins in the English dub.
Also from Sailor Moon, Kunzite and Zoisite, but Zoisite was in the English dub portrayed as female.
Sure, Haruka was more masculine and Zoisite more feminine, but neither were ridiculed, in my opinion.
