Requiem for Tim (and all Tim's in the world)

Dear Tim.
This morning I have seen the message in my newspaper that you died.
So young; only twenty years of age.
Your parents were so brave to post your farewell letter, so the whole world is finally able to hear your cry:

Dear father and mother,
All my life I have been mocked, harassed, bullied and excluded.
You both are fantastic.
I do hope that you are not angry.

So long, Tim.

I don't know you, Tim. But I do know others who did the same thing and I am sure that such a deed is often the consequence of intolerance of others.

Freedom.
It is a matter of give and take
They say.
But if they refuse to take,
what you can give;
and refuse to give,
what you must take;
what good is freedom?

Rest in peace Tim.

Who has removed the sun from your eyes
Who has extinguished the light in you
Who changed your red cheeks into pale
Who chased away all your dreams
Who broke your little heart
And colored your eyes black
Who did not do what he had promised

Who choked the laughter in your throat
Made you clench your fists
Who did murder that open-minded boy
That always stands up when it falls
Who made it impossible to straighten your back
Destroyed your joy to play
Who broke your wings in the joy of flight

Who passed you without noticing
Who betrays here your faith
Why was nobody listening
To your cry for respect
Who was the one that did forget
That the future should be yours
Who did, just as I, love you not enough

Who did, just as I, love you not enough

I will search for you, herod. At the moment that I made my post I only read the "deaths ad" (I do not know the English word for "overlijdensadvertentie"). Of course it was obvious for me that the boy committed suicide. His words touched me deeply, especially because a good friend of my sons committed suicide a year ago. They still feel guilty for not noticing any sign or any cry for help. The Netherlands is such a rich country that it is a shame that people have to live an emotional poor life.
I felt deep admiration for his parents, who had the courage to show the world his last words. And the impact is enormous. Last night it was item number one on the national talk radio stations.
And please no mistake; I have no idea if Tim was gay or not. That is not of any importance. There are a lot of people who live miserable life's. Let us all be open-eyed and help people instead of making things worse.
This morning there was a first article in TC Tubantia, our local newspaper. But this is all in Dutch of course. When I find stuff or links, I will post them.

It's so horrible what people are doing to eachothers. And it's sad that someone feels there's no other way than to end it all, lost all hope of future, self-esteem shattered. In suicides I think the most horrible thing are the common apologies. Person ending his own life feels that he's still letting everyone down, being only a burden without no real value. R.I.P Tim.

It is all over the news at the moment in The Netherlands, so you can go to NOS new, RTL 4 news, all the big newspapers, whatever, you will find articles or comments. But the nicest comment I have seen is made by this cute young hero:

The English word for "overlijdensadvertentie " = "Death notice"
