Strange login problems

Today I hit upon some strange login problems I really don't understand and I'll be really grateful if someone would try to give me some explanations:?:worried:

So I'll try my best to describe the case:
I've got two laptop computers in my flat, a Samsung with Windows7 which is the older one of the two and the one I'm using in this moment. The second and newer is a HewlettPackard with Windows 8, which is the one I ordinarily use. I should also state that I usually use Firefox on both computers.

Now what happened this afternoon was, that I tried to login to GH on my HP/Windows8 computer, but to no avail. I just got this annoying message: "Wrong username or password. You have used up your failed login quota!" The strange thing was a) that I'm certain I've used exactly the same username and password as always; b) I got this message after my first try to login today, so I haven't had a chance to "use up" any "login quota".

I tried again after 20 minutes but with exactly the same negative result, so I sent an email to the admins describing my problems.

But I gets stranger...
After another hour or so, I thought maybe I should test what happens if I turn on the other computer, the Samsung/Windows 7, and try to login to GH.

And lo and behold!!! No problems whatsoever:eek:

I just don't understand... Can anyone explain?

Same here: last couple days, immediately get "Wrong username or password. You have used up your failed login quota!" on the first try. This lockout continues, sometimes for half an hour, sometimes several hours, before mysteriously allowing normal login. Kinda spooked me at first: I thought maybe my account got hijacked until I saw gorgik9's post (which luckily appeared on the main forum page despite my inability to log in).

Thanks, gorgik9!!!

Your post gorgik9 was a help, knowing log on was a problem. I had the same problem trying to log on. Trying log on with another computer did not help. The last thing I tried was to clear stored passwords from foxfire.

One thing I've noticed over the years is the high level of technical/customer care on this site. I was having the same problem most of the day, and it looks like they just fixed it. There've been other, more lengthy glitches, of course, and sometimes it is frustrating to wait. It's always worked out. Anyway, a long-winded wind-up to say one thing that we should say more often, around here and in our lives: Thank you!

Just so you all know...

It wasn't just members that were locked out, I've been unable to access the forum all day as well.

And if it helps the techs out there figure out what went wrong , I'm using Firefox on a Samsung laptop running Windows 8 and would be curious to know if all the others having this issue were using Windows 8 or Firefox.

I too also got the same strange message as well while logged on last night and trying to get to the picture sets section so that i can make another new thread

Apparently the forum did sent me an email telling me that someone tried to access my account and told me which ip address, so lucky i was able to get my password reset, but before this strange message popped up on my screen, my web browser redirect me to another forum called Planetsuzzy but with gayheaven dot org in the web address bar:?, so i thought maybe someone hijacked my computer and did something to my web browser to redirect me elsewhere so that i cannot access this forum anymore , but as i can see everyone had this problem or something similar and not just me.

But it looks like everything is back to normal now, so I'm happy and not worried anymore :)

Thank you gorgik9 and Guys for the important info and suggestions.

The web browser i used was Firefox last version and Windows 8.1

Lenovo All-In-One/W8.1/Opera

I finally got logged in this evening after trying all day off and on. I had to get a PW reset email sent to me but even now I'm getting logged out by the system on a random basis. Sometimes when I sit idle for a few minutes other times when I navigate pages. Fortunately I can still login again but sometimes I have to do another PW reset email.

Just FYI

I think it has nothing to do with the browsers and systems we use. :/

@CP101: Planetsuzzy is the straight counterpart of this forum. Whatever that implies... But you're not not the only one being redirected to a straight forum of this forum-network.

Something new anyway - being logged in and logged out at the same time. I was able to change my signature while I was supposedly "logged out" yesterday. So resetting the password won't help as well.

Your redirect seems to be an added twist to the issues the rest of us are facing, but I may have a partial explanation for it...

You were redirected to planetsuzzy and GH is (or at least was) part of the planetsuzzy network. Which also helps explain why it takes so long to fix certain issues.

A while back GH was in trouble, the membership had grown too large and the traffic too much for our servers to handle. With no money to upgrade, we had to seek alternative options. Planetsuzzy had troubles of their own, people were posting gay porn on their straight forums and they didn't want it there. They needed a dedicated gay group but had no one willing to set it up and run it. So they decided to find an existing group (us) and add it to their network.

We got upgraded servers and they got their token gay group. Problem is, we're the bastard child. The straight groups make them money, so they get priority and we're the last to get support and upgrades. But that's how we keep this group running for free...

FWIW, happened on both my systems: old Firefox 16.0.2 on old Mac Mini running OSX 10.5.8, and I.E. on a Samsung laptop running Win 7.

Funny how many of us seem to own Samsung laptops: wonder if thats a gay thing? ;)

The same problem with me - and I have thought that perhaps Firefox was guilty because short before I tried GH I've updated my Firefox to the newest version. But today all is well again. And I hope it will be so for a long time.

You must know, without GH I'll get a withdrawal symptom! -:)
