So the "new iPad" has been announced and I'm sure if you haven't heard about it yet you soon will lol

Many here probably know I'm bit of an apple fan as it is so before I make up my mind if I want to upgrade to the new iPad (probably will lol) I'm wondering what is everyone's first reaction to it.....

Not enough new features to make it worth the money in my opinion. The iPad 2 looks great and I'll probably get one now that the price will go down.

I have an iPad 2 and the latest software upgrade makes it noticeably snappier... but the screen on the new model can't be beat...

If you have an original iPad (or no iPad at all), then I think this is a quantum leap forward, and definitely worth the price. That screen and that 4-core graphics processor will make for one very sweet tablet!

If on the other hand you have an iPad 2 (and are not rich), I'd be inclined to hold off till next year to upgrade. The iPad 2 is a stunning device, and it'll still serve you very well for at least the next year.

If you don't have a tablet, and want to dip a toe in the water without spending a fortune, the iPad 2 is still being sold, but now for just $399, which is an absolute bargain!

Finally, if and iPad 2 and enough money not to miss $499, heck, why not, looks shiny :)

I have to say I think the new apps, and how they are using that quad core GPU is where the future lies. The demo if the iPhoto lossless photo editor was nothign short of stunning, and the new version of Garage band where up to four people can play and record together would be shit cool if I were a teen with a guitar!

For now, I'll be sticking with my original iPad, but in 6 months, assuming money problems are under control, *yoink* :)

I really don't understand where all the fuzz is about. But I have to admit: Apple's PR can't be beaten (not yet, that is!). How many people that attended Apple's latest keynote speech would rather stayed at home and watched some porn on their Ipad?

I really don't understand where all the fuzz is about.

I don't get the fuss about the super bowl - not everyone is interested in everything (thankfully or we'd all be permanently celebrating and commiserating at the same time :) )

If you're not into tech, then all you really need to know is that the price has stayed the same, and the iPad is still leading the charge when it comes to tablets.

But I have to admit: Apple's PR can't be beaten (not yet, that is!).

Apple's secret is actually very simple, don't hold events to announce plans, hold events to demonstrate products that are ready! Most companies can't keep their powder dry until they have something to show, instead, they make big announcements about cool sounding plans, but have no substance. That's a sure-fire way not to get the press's attention when you say you're having an event next week. With one notable exception (the Apple hi-fi), Apple only summon the press when they have real news to share.

How many people that attended Apple's latest keynote speech would rather stayed at home and watched some porn on their Ipad?

About as many as were at the superbowl wishing they were home wanking :)

I have an iPad 2 & I'm happy with the current one i got & there isn't enough new features that this new Ipad has to offer for me to upgrade but if it did have Siri - The Personal Assistant App that Iphone 4gS has then i would definitely upgrade to the New Ipad cause ever since that app was introduced last year i have always wanted to try that Siri App, why doesn't Apple just release this Siri App for all the iOS devices instead why does it have to be exclusive to the New Iphone 4Gs only? The Ipad 2 has got the exact same A5 chip that Iphone 4Gs has which is required for Siri to work i think. :)

I still can't decide if I should get an iPad. I have a lap top and an iPhone, and I am not sure what I would do with an iPad.

I do think they are cool though, so I would love a good reason.

What are you guys doing with yours?

I'm unfortunately a Mac-person too! I have a Macbook Pro, ipad 2 and iphone 4S. :p

But seriously speaking, I don't think you need to upgrade if you have an iPad2 or if you don't have one but can afford to buy it I think the iPad2 is good enough for now.

Theory 1) even now, the servers are not very reliable, so opening it up more would kill it. It is still officially in beta remember!

Theory 2) they want to get people to upgrade from their old iPhones to new ones - not that that explains the iPad 3 not having it

Theory 3) since siri needs internet access, and unlike phones, you can't rely on iPads to always have internet, then siri would be a poor experience - if this was true, then why not have it on just the 3G/4G models, and only leave it off the wifi model?

From what I can see, THeory 1 seems the most likely, but of course, we can never know for sure what Apple are thinking.

Wonder could you borrow one for a week from someone? That would give you a much better idea whether or not it's for you.

As for what I do - hard to list it all, but I use it at least 2 hours a day, probably a lot more most days!

1) I surf the web in bed or around the house
2) I check email in bed or around the house
3) I play games - usually in bed before going to sleep
4) I read books - ironically with the Kindle app, but there is lots of choice in terms of where you get your ebooks from
5) I use it to take notes subtly and quietly in meetings (no KB so virtually silent, and flat on table so no 'barrier' between you and the peopel you are meeting like with a laptop)
6) I use it as a cook book in the kitchen
7) I watch video podcasts on it (at least one a day on week days, often more)
8) I watch TV on it (RTE player for Irish TV, 4oD for UK channel 5, and international BBC iPlayer)
9) I watch movies and other TV shows with NetFlix
10) I use it to check out star maps for astronomy (great for navigating around the sky by just dragging to move and pinching to zoom)

I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

I wear off my phone and computer until smokes comes out of them... but I sure know a Blondy Locks that will want one, everything has to match his beauty :p Ipad 1 is slick and cute but now Ipad 2 is just plan beautiful(just like him) and yes he buys it just for the fashion, after 2 weeks it will collect dust just like that cube computer I gave him last xmas.

If I had the money for it, I wouldn't mind picking one up. I've used an iPad before and liked the simple interface and think it'd be great to keep next to the couch, on my night stand or near the toilet. I think Apple did a pretty good job finding middle ground between a handheld device and a laptop.

I have a Kindle Fire, but I use it for most of the same things that gb2000ie mentioned. As for where I use it - it's mostly the couch, the bed, or anytime I'm waiting for a few minutes and want to see what's going on, or return some e-mails.

I think for most people a tablet is not a "must have", but rather a "nice to have" device. There's nothing there that can't be done with a laptop and a smartphone. But the size makes it better for reading, browsing and watching movies.

I know some people for whom the iPad is a crucial part of their work. Two friends of mine who are photographers have their portfolio on them. Another friend in real estate carries one all the time to help her clients search for properties on the spot. And a friend who is a theater director keeps his scripts and notes on the iPad which he has with him in rehearsal.

Theory 1) even now, the servers are not very reliable...
Theory 2) they want to get people to upgrade from their old iPhones to new ones...
Theory 3) since siri needs internet access... then siri would be a poor experience.

In my opinion, Theory 2 is the main reason Siri is restricted to the iPhone 4s. Siri is just a software app, and would work just as well on the iPhone 4. But it's really the only sexy selling point Apple has to convince people to buy the upgraded model.

As for why it is absent from the iPad - I think your Theory 3 is a reasonable explanation. Also, the only microphone on the iPad is on the back and it's no where near as sophisticated as the iPhone mic. The tablet just isn't made for you to talk to it.
