Years ago I would always watch the news but now don't bother.Too depressing.Besides It is around you from the time you wake,Radio, computer and on in the gym.So watching Tv news in the evening is just a rehash of the mundane and the bad stuff all around us.Maybe I am more intolerant as I get older.

It sounds to me like your source of news has simply changed. If you hear news all day, then you are still getting the news, you've just moved on from watching a particular show at a particular time on a particular medium.

If you know what's going on, job done!

This scene from the movie 'Network' (1976) pretty much speaks to your observation of the news media:

"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"(Network - 1976)

"the bad stuff all around us", from those they report , is made, that we should never ever know, what they are planing, 'cause if you think about the bad stuff, you don't have time, to think about the things, they wanna do. But sometimes we do, 'cause of Ellsberg, Manning, Snowden, WikiLeaks, Avaaz, Campact etc. TV and Radio ? Forget about it !

The news reporting has certainly deteriorated. More shallow, more dramatic, less thoughtful.

There are times when I ignore the news. When I'm traveling, when I don't have access to media. It always strikes me that little has changed when I return.

That's what I do Tonka. Yes I'm reading my 3 newspapers per day. Well I want to be informed. But news in the radio or TV - better a good film from a DVD!

If the question is about TV news I'd say it is often sexed up/dumbed down, repetitious and one dimensional. The pictures are better on radio news, that's the medium for grown up reporting. Anywhere you can get an internet signal you can pick up BBC World Service for a balanced view of events without slogans or celebs. Less shallow, less dramatic, more thoughtful.
