People's politics are too complex to represent on a simple left/right scale, so the political compass adds in an extra dimension, making it a plane of possibilities rather than a line. One one axis you have traditional left/right, and on the other you have libertarian/authoritarian.

My Score:
Economic Left/Right: -7.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.00

In an ideal world I'd like this thread to stay about people's scores, and the merrits or not of the scale, rather than a pointless argument about whether it's "right" to be at one point on the scale over another.

Just goes to show that our old left/right labels don't work so well.

Looking at the other results so far, you're the least-left and least libertarian so far, which I guess puts you to the 'right' of us lefti pinko commies (as a freind in college used to call me) :)

It's a fun test to do I think - makes you think about what you think.

I've taken this before, but my score is fairly close to previous ones. (I think my current bad mood and general cynicism came to the foreground this time.)

Economic Left/Right: -8.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.97

Well, I am also surprised, ec.le/ri -7,50 and Soc. auth./lib. -5,38, what means that Nelson Mandela and The Dalaï Lama are sitting at my table. My greatest opposer seams to be George W. Bush. That doesn't surprise me at all!
A little remark: I miss the possibility to give "no meaning", or "this point does not have my interest" in the multiple choice answers. I would have chosen it a few times.

Cheers for doing this - really puts the results into context. It seems most gay people are left, and, all of us so far are libertarian - which makes sense. All most gay people want in society is to be free from busybodies trying to dictate how we live our lives. Live and let live!
