What make you think it is going to happen, because some phony "experts" came forward with an ancient Mayan Calendar for which the year cycle is ending and that should be a sign for us that the world is ending? Do you have an idea how many phony have come forward predicting the end of world with stupid calculations (decipher those and you get the recipe for an apple pie). There is many ways the end of the world will occurs... after all not to forget we are one planet amongst many... surrounding us, a shit load of asteroids going close and about the earth. One day one of them may enter in collision and cause a lot of mayhem on earth (call it Armageddon).

If Carl Sagan would be alive today he would be the first to tell you that this Mayan stuff is a load of cat poo. I really do respect the Maya, their history, their culture... not only because I love everything regarding anthropology, but because my first girlfriend is decedent of the Mayan culture, which make my own daughter part of the Mayan heritage. Just so we are clear... Mayan is South America, Aztec are Mexico.

So as advanced their science was... because studying the Maya and Aztec civilizations, you find out soon enough that they have been studying the sun and other planets way before Galileo Galilee, they understood the cycle of days and night, they even figured primitively the first concept of photosynthesis, which allowed to have better control of their crops. Did you know that the Mayan and Aztec were also the first to somehow understand the influence of the moon and sun on human's sexual behaviors... yes in a full moon, it was a fuck festival in those Mayan and Aztec Tee Pee Houses :rofl:as it still his today.

So we do owe few of our modern discoveries to the archaic science of the Mayan Civilization... but that is just it... the word is "Archaic" and it cannot be taken too seriously today. One cannot compare our understanding of the solar system with their understanding of the solar system. The sun was god to them, and everything they couldn't explain was a deity or a demon... thunder was the god of something I don't remember... and this goes for the other civilization that populated the earth before us... whatever they couldn't understand, a god, a deity or demon was attached to them. Take a quick stroll to the Greek Mythology and compare it to the Mayan Mythology or even the Ancient Egypt and you'll find out soon enough that the same gods and deities are coming together with different names, but same functions. Just like today with Mohammad and Yeshua (Jesus), same god, same functions, same magical bullshit, different religion. You'll note that the most powerful god of all in all religion is the SUN, no matter how they call him, he represent days and night, which in a past not so far from us was still very influential. Even our god of today represent days and night, when one call him the light, the powerful etc etc it all refers to the sun. Therefore just like the Mayan, the Aztec, the Vikings our god is the SUN, turn off the sun and tell me how long all living things will survive.

Therefore the Mayan calendar, the cause of all this bullshit about 2012 being the end of the world is related to the Mayan's end of a sun cycle, were they right, were they wrong? We don't know, but I have a slight idea that they were not. Not because they were not smart enough, but because it was an archaic science, which today can be easily refuted or corrected. But some people will still use that statement to run a fear campaign.

I suggest you to take some time to study a bit of anthropology, astrology, quantum physic, history and civilization in order to make yourself a clear mind as of what may happens... perhaps we are entering into a new solar millennium which may cause some massive ecological catastrophe, but don't forget one thing... today we see natural catastrophe more often because we understand them much better than they would centuries ago.

And just as Hammervice said so well, if a catastrophe is to happen, what can you do? NOTHING, if an asteroid enter the earth atmosphere and hit our beloved planet causing a mass killing,what can you do? Have a brandy, smoke a cigar and tell yourself what a great life you've lead and wish good luck to the next civilization. :cheers:

I think you need to do some more thinking, then perhaps some reading, and then a little more thinking.

As doom predictions go this one is one of the weakest yet, and remember, all the other more convincing ones have all been proven wrong!
