Things people do that drive you CRAZY!!!

Alright. Cue rant. Hahaha. I figured we could have a rant thread for when people in our lives just drive us up the wall. Nobody will probably use it except for me but oh well.

My on-again-off-again boyfriend (we're on again as of about two weeks ago) of about a year recently had a huge falling out with his family. As such, Christmas Day he'll be doing NOTHING. He'll sit at home alone, not see or speak to anyone, not get any presents, not have any joy or any celebration. Which to me is just heartbreaking, I couldn't do it. And I know him and it will absolutely KILL him if that's how his Christmas Day unfolds. So I told him that after my usual family brunch I'd go around to his place at about 1pm and I'd cook us a late lunch and we could celebrate and I could give him his present and so on and so forth (even when we're not together we're still the very closest of friends, so he would have gotten a present regardless). He said no but then quickly acknowledged that yes he would hate to spend Christmas alone and that he would love for me to come around. So he agreed to the plans. An hour later, I get home from his place. A text message comes through. More or less saying that he's decided that from now on he's a lone rider and that's how his life will be and that he's spending Christmas alone. Hmmmm. Lone rider that has a boyfriend? How does that work? But that wasn't my concern it was that I seriously couldn't stand to see him and how much it will affect him to spend Christmas alone. Knowing him and what he's like, it won't go down well. Not well at all. So I told him not to be silly and that I really wanted to go spend time with him. He texted back rather snappily to say it was his decision and that if I couldn't accept it I could 'Go Fuck Off'. Needless to say, I don't know what's going on. But at this rate, he will be spending Christmas alone... And all the holidays after that! X(

Anyone else have things that have made them particularly mad lately? Feel free to share!

I can rant for England LOL

Victor Meldrew has nothing on me :p

Rudeness / impoliteness is one of my pet hates too. No need for it. Doesn't cost to be at least civil to others. I can be very blunt but will always listen to an opposing view with respect. Staff in bars & shops who act like your inconveniencing them will always be something I can't stand. I've always enjoyed people and if you give respect & friendliness you get the same back 99 per cent of the time. (Damn, can't believe there is no percentage key on here!! Or have I had too much Christmas spirit LOL )

;)

I have to agree with you xman! Especially with regards to staff in bars and shops. But the same can also be said in reverse! As someone who works part-time in retail, it can be just as irking for you to be doing your job, providing friendly customer service, and have customers grunt at you, or treat you as though you're dirt beneath their shoe. Yes, grunt. The supermarket I work in is in a low socio-economic area and the people can be less than pleasant to deal with. It gets very old for me to always go out of my way and be treated the way I am by certain customers!

So true Diva! All staff should be treated nicely, they are after all earning a wage, they're not there because they love it. Customers who treat shop workers, etc like they're dirt make me sick!! I've experienced that in the past too.

Like I've said, respect & friendliness usually earns the same back and it's rewarding for both parties and makes the day go better.

Don't get dis-heartened sadly the world is full of ignorant people - fortunately they are out-numbered by decent folks ;)

Not much annoys me or drives me crazy. I really do think life it too short for me to get caught up in the little things. That said, I'm no stoic. Rudeness, as others said, is definitely annoying. But three things that really get me are aggressiveness, intolerance and willful ignorance.

For aggressiveness - what is it that you are really trying to prove? Good for you; you sure did a good job at getting things done by intimidating everyone around you. Doesn't impress me in the least. Now, there is a time and place for assertiveness, but outright aggression, count me out.

For intolerance - if someone is really open to exploring other viewpoints, but just hasn't been exposed to many, then I can deal with that. If you just want to spout stupid hatred from your word hole, I don't have time for that level of shenanigans.

For willful ignorance - if someone chooses to ignore data, evidence, facts, and so on, it really makes me mad. You see this one a lot in politics. Politicians ignoring - many of them willfully ignoring - that is, they are smart enough that they should know better and maybe do know better, but decide that it's politically expedient to adopt a certain mindset - widely accepted facts. Now, sure I fully accept that we can have differences of viewpoints and opinions, but when some of these characters offer up feeble justifications to explain their viewpoint, you really have to question whether they truly believe what they purport to believe.

Two footed drivers grind my gears!

When I see some one accelerating while their brake lights are on it is confusing, irritating and it drives me nuts.

One of my sisters is a two footed driver. I refuse to ride in a car she is driving for fear I might throttle her tiny little neck to break her of that bad habit.

I'm sure there are many other pet peeves I could share but that one is what came to mind first, lol.

That bad driving habit can cost an innocent life. In an emergency stop both feet will try to press the pedal at the same time, result you dont have full control of the braking. My driving instructor made that point too forcefuly for me ever to forget.

I've mellowed out a lot.
I drive busy roads, both where I live in the city, and along the highway to my job in the suburbs.
These days, I just chill out and drive. It does help that I'm no longer driving during rush hour. That drive will get on your nerves!

What drives me nuts is a loud, window-rattling bass in a car going by. And yes, I am an older guy, but I didn't like to hear it when I was young either.

Children swearing.

People coughing (or belching) but not covering their mouth.

Whow Warp9 - you are better than a doctor. Now I know why I have this high bloodpressure! :thumbs up: But I think you know what I have meant. My parents trained me to be always honest even if the consequences would be hard.

As I've mentioned in earlier posts that I have this one sister in my immediate family who has made an effort to maintain a relationship with me as opposed to my other siblings. As I've also mentioned in previous posts is that there are things about her that I do not entertain or care for but I do my best to over look them and put a lot of focus on the good person that I know she can be. One thing that really drives me crazy and somewhat keeps me from being as close to her as I would really like to be is that many times when she has disagreements/issues with my other siblings, she makes a point to let me know how special I am to her and how much I mean to her. However, whenever these siblings make their lame attempts to resolve their issues with her....I can tell by her actions and voice when she calls me that she wants me to overlook my issues with them..other words...she wants me to overlook what they've done to me and make an effort to reach out to them as oppose to them making attempts to repair their relationships with me. Nonetheless, when she is pissed off at them...then she praises me for being strong and not needing them in my life. Otherwise...she's a flip flopper...honestly...due to the history that she has with the immediate family...none of her behavior patterns shocks me...however...if that's the kind of twisted relationship she has with them...then don't try to force me into her changing of the weather behavior patterns...

Chewing with their mouths open.

Smacking while they chew.

Picking their teeth at the table.

I don't like to watch people eat. I don't like it in real life or in films/TV. If you watch people chew and swallow long enough you'll see what I mean. It's a natural function and I get that but so is defecating and I don't want to watch that either.

There are exceptions I guess. I can watch my partner eat with no problem. I could watch my parents eat because... well they were well mannered at the table. But my brothers? Oh Hell no! They can eat like pigs sometimes. When we were young my mother kept them in check but as adults they think it's 'manly' to eat like wolves or something. I don't know. I try to be mindful of others when I eat. Am I weird or something?

And then there's drinking. No matter what it is I take sips rather than gulps. That is unless it's very hot and I have a big glass of iced sweet tea in front of me - then look out, lol.

Lots of you have points that I totally agree with, and it wouldn't make any sense to repeat those points again, so I'll just add two simple ones off the back of my head :D

Human barriers. You know, those groups of people who insist on taking up the entire passageway in malls, just after an entrance/exit (especially at subway stations and elevators), or even just after the landing of the escalator........all while totally engrossed with their chitchat or whatever's grabbing their attention. For god's sake people, some of us have places to go!

Screaming/rowdy children. Sure, kids make lots of noises all the time and can be pretty uncontrollable sometimes (one of the reason why I'm not too keen on having kids, straight or not!) But I'm talking about screaming kids which parents make absolutely no attempt to appease - going about their business like they're deaf or something, or worse, encourage them further ("oh look at how cute they are!"). As well as parents who let their tiny kids, sometimes barely even able to walk, run around unsupervised in a crowded mall or an area with lots of foot traffic, and when you accidentally trip them or they tripped over you (what did you expect would happen?), suddenly EVERYONE treats you like you're the scum of the Earth!

These are whopping culture shocks when you travel in China, Japan, Korea, etc.

It's even more of a shock to me when people from there come to North America and do it here as if they are at home and never left their country.
