Tom Daley, out gay diver for the UK, just posted a video tour of his corner of the Olympic Village.

He also goes in to the protocols in place for athletes. Most shocking - you can only arrive a few days ahead of your event and then once you compete, you have to go home within 48 hours! Fortunately (I guess?) for Tom his first event (men's synchronized diving) is at the beginning and then his second event (platform diving) is at the end - so he is one of the few who will be there for the whole thing.

That's going to make for very few athletes at the opening and closing ceremonies.

The beauty of the Olympic Games

Slovenian judoka Tina Trstenjak has won the silver medal in the 63kg category at the Tokyo Olympics. The second-best-ranked in the category had to concede to the top-ranked Clarisse Agbegnenou of France on Tuesday in what was a replay of the gold medal match from the previous Olympics where Trstenjak won.

The two judokates, who know each other well after having faced each other on multiple occasions, dedicate a mutual respect illustrated by the superb hug seen on the tatami when the Frenchwoman sealed the fate of the fight on a waza-ari.

It makes me happy that the Olympic Spirit still exist :)

The second gold medal for Slovenia

Primož Roglič claimed his revenge after the disappointment at the Tour de France, winning gold in the men's Tokyo 2020 Olympic time trial. He has outclassed the competition by more than a minute! :thumbs up:

Very deserved win after all the ordeals this season, congratulations! ;)

Oh he'll become a professional knitter and crochetter!!! ;)

Tom Daley might be an Olympic gold medalist, but he's equally skilled at knitting and crocheting. :thumbs up:

Well as for the GB swimmers they are our most successful team in years.....

Tom Dean, 21, who recovered twice from COVID-19 during the pandemic, won two golds at his debut Games, in the individual 200m freestyle and the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.

Adam Peaty, 26, picked up golds in the 100m breaststroke, where he retained his title from Rio, and the mixed 4x100m medley relay, and he also won a silver in the men's 4x100m medley relay.

And with one gold and three silvers, Duncan Scott, 24, became the first British athlete from any sport to win four medals at a single Games.

Matthew Richards, 18, took gold as part of the freestyle relay team at his first olympics

An interesting choice of words from interviewee BBC Claire Balding has Tom & Matthew trying to stop giggling....

Tom Daley won Bronze in the Men's 10m Platform competition. He dove really well, but the 2 Chinese team members, Cao Yuan and Yang Jian (who won gold and silver, respectively), were even better and more consistent.

While fans in the UK and around the world are proud, he has not escaped criticism.

Russian state news attacked him and other LGBT athletes as perverts. The IOC shot back a strongly worded rebuke, but public homophobia in Russia just seems to be increasing.

Back home, former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan criticized Tom on Twitter for knitting during the Women's Springboard finals. Morgan got a huge response from viewers who found Tom's needle work charming.

Speaking of his crocheting - those swim briefs shown above - I expect those will fetch a lot of money when auctioned for the Brain Cancer Research charity he works with (in memory of his father).
