I'm a scientists by training, so I look at things in a very practical way.

So, my thinking is that because every cock is different (thick, thin, long short, curving up, curving down, curving left, curving right, big head, small head, and so on and so forth), and every ass is different, there just is no globally best position.

The best position entirely depends on the cock and the ass involved. There is no shortcut for it, you're just gonna have to do some more experimenting

I guess, distance between a tip of index finger and its second joint is ussualy about 2 inchess (in my case it's so). so I'd say the picture is good.
