Yes it is.... in the left hand box next to the list of thanks each "thanker" will have the Remove Your Thanks option :

Could also be that they click thanks to see the link, but then find out the vid is on on a site that they can't d/l from.

So I end up increasing the # of thanks for the thread creator, but end up not being able to get the files.

Yes, I have thanked a few posts, only to try to download and find parts (or even all) of the files deleted.

I have clicked 'thanks' a number of times, and once the hidden links are revealed, discover that the links are invalid. At that point I just send a PM to the uploader about their links, and if they don't get updated, I just report the broken links to a moderator. The uploader gets to keep my 'thanks,' but that's not a big deal to me. I figure it all comes out in the end.

I suppose some people may use the "hide" feature so their reputation can be increased by receiving 'thanks' from everyone who wants to download their files, but the most important benefit of hiding links is that it increases the life of those links by hiding them from non-members and search engines.

And it's hardly 'blackmail' or any other form of extortion as no one is actually forcing or coercing you to download their files. If you're tempted enough by the description and screenshots, then what's wrong with clicking 'thanks' so you can download a file that appeals to you? As an alternative, you could 'thank' the original studio by purchasing their DVD or a subscription to the originating website.

Whenever I download a file, I click 'thanks' even if it's not required to 'un-hide' the links. All of us should be grateful for the existence of this site,and for the administrators, moderators, and any users who upload material we desire. There is a lot of content here that would be extremely difficult to find otherwise, due to being from an out-of-print DVD (or from VHS porn that was never issued on DVD at all), or because it is from a website that no longer exists.

edited to add: Plus there are plenty of members who live in countries where tons of gay porn, even if it is still in print in the U.S., is unavailable either due to censorship laws or because the studio has not licensed its use in those countries.

I have on occasion hit thanks instead of quote on a post and ended up accidentally thanking someone for being a complete ass. Not earth-shattering, but a little annoying all the same.

It would never have occurred to me to "unthank" had I not just read this thread. I've downloaded several clips that I ended up not wanting to keep. That doesn't lessen my gratitude to the kind soul who spent time uploading it so my curiosity is satisfied. It's not like thanking cost me anything--I thank for every download I get whether hidden links are involved or not. Just seems polite. For my first few days on GH I didn't notice the thanks tab. I felt guilty about those I missed.
