I have several problems to watch some videos in HD.
I have a macbook with OS X 10.5.8 and normally I use VLC player.
Do you know another player to watch them?
Or can I convert this movies to SD?
Thank you so much!
(sorry my English...)

Hello nesprexo,

may I ask which problems do you have with watching HD-Videos on your Macbook? Perhaps deinstalling and reinstalling the player could help.

But in case of problems that go deeper, did you use itunes itself? And if you don't like it, you could give the DivX-Player for your Mac a try. It gives you not only the codec, but brings an own player with it.

If you have more time and efford, you can for sure convert your movies to SD, but I think it would be better to have and use them in HD. :)

Hi lamicheval!
Thanks for your post here.
Some kind of videos in HD simply don't open (with vlc, quicktime, mplayer OSX, Real Player). Another videos play in slowmotion (???!!!) with breaks...
I install a few minutes ago the DivX player for mac but... Don't work!
I think the problem is the version I have here (OS X 10.5.8).
Probablly I need the OS X 10.6...
:-(

Perhaps you should examine the extension of the video file.
HD simply refers to the quality, not the codecs used in opening the file. Perhaps some codecs take more processing power to run, causing the laggy playing of the video.

Another aspect to check: Is battery saving mode turned on? That affects performance as well.

I don't think the version of the Operating System affects much in this case; the processing power of the laptop is far more crucial.

Hi nesprexo,

you are welcome. Like name_1 already told, your description sounds like it would be a problem with the performance of your hardware itself. So perhaps to convert the files in SD would indeed be a good idea, if the battery saving mode is not the fitting hint already. :)

Thanks a lot! I don't understand very well that question of "battery saving mode"... She is on 100% almost of the times...
I can' open these movies in mp4:
http://gayheaven.org/showthread.php?p=1547256#post1547256.
The VLC program start and after 20 seconds go down! :-(
Do you know a good video converter (free) to put these movies in SD?
Thank you so much.
:)

The battery saving mode reduces the speed of the mac, to save battery power. So some applications couldn't perhaps get the necessary power to work well. E.g. the video player could have problems to render the video quick enough to play it, or play it smoothly. Deactivating the saving mode could help a bit.

Btw. I have no problem to understand your English and if something would not be so easy to understand, I (we) can ask. But I know the need to excuse my writing, because English isn't my mothertongue as well, how you can sometimes easily see. ;)

And for the converters I can suggest two applications I found:
"HandBrake" and "Kigo Video Converter". Please have a look with your favorited search engine to load it down, if you are interested in them. :)

That may be so. I have 10.6.8 and almost all of the listed apps work for me. I find DivX to work very well. Good luck!

Perhaps when configuring the output quality, you chose too low a quality. However, keep in mind that since its SD, you can't expect a quality like HD, since its well, SD.
