I have a bunch of watches ranging from a cheap 20 year old Timex with a stretch band my grandpa used to own to a new Casio that automatically sets itself my dad gave me. Also have a Swatch, a few Walmart watches and a Skagen. The one I have been wearing most lately though has been a 1970s Seiko Automatic mechanical watch mated to a 5 or 6 year old Fossil band I found without a watch (the seiko was found without a band funny enough).

watches are for old guys

I am told by my geriatric friends that it is mostly old people that wear watches. Most young people use their smart phones and never even used a watch. that is a shame because I think watches are fun and you do not have to do much to look at the time. It takes a little bit more time to pull out the phone an put it safely away. At least that is my experience. I use both...but on the go the watch has it. :p

I love watches, especially chronographs. My favourite 2 I own are both Titanium cased, one a Seiko Chronograph and the other a Longines Conquest.
Although I do find Rolexes ugly and vulgar.

That's a nice Casio. I have a Casio that's analog with a digital readout as well. Parents gave it to me for this past Christmas. It's neat in that I never have to touch the buttons. It has a radio receiver inside of it and automatically sets itself. It looks decent but still kinda nerdy. Also, the thing is solar powered. It's perfect for my job since it's easy to clean and it's durable as well as light. Also it's opposite of my 1970s Seiko in that it draws no attention; just isn't noticed whereas the Seiko, for some reason, is a conversation piece.

I remember when I was a kid; back before my sister was even born, I had an obsession with calculator watches and my grandfather and my parents would take turns buying me a new Casio calc watch whenever I managed to mess up the one I had.

To Pinklee: I'll admit my watch is mostly a fasion accessory but I do find it convenient since I need to know the time much more often than I need to use my phone. Though also, as long as I can remember, even as a kid, I always had a watch.

I cannot visualize my clock. When I retired more than two years ago I decided to start a little experiment. Would it be possible to rely on my biological clock to have any notice of time? The result is surprising. The accuracy is about half an hour and, what maybe most important, the feeling of rush and impatience disappeared.
So I do not have a wrist watch anymore; no clock in my car and no cell phone. But I do realize that this is a luxury I only can permit myself because of my retirement.
Thank you youngsters for this beautiful gift.

Being retired, you have more time available for the computer which is probably more accurate than a watch or phone. At the same time, even with no sources of time, you can consider yourself to be with quite a luxury if, somehow, the time or day just doesn't matter enough to bother with the effort of strapping a watch on in the morning.

I love watches, and I ain't decrepit yet. :)
I also have the biggest lust for chunky watches. The chunkier, the more aroused I get at the store. I know a lot of people say Invicta Watches are crap, but I dig how chunky they are. Thruthfully, they aren't very good inside, I constantly need to readjust the hands so that it is exactly 5 minutes ahead of the world clock.
But I think Seiko watches are absolutely great. I have a few and they always make me feel good, I love the sound of the almost unnoticeable tic toc.
As for Rolexes, I have to agree. Blegh and Bleh. I'd rather get something just as pricey that's made in the US, there are some really awesome one made, even in Arizona.
I also recommend Sturhling watches, absolutely wonderful to look at.

I usually prefer minimalist. Just, sometimes, I happen to find something chunky that matches my clothing. Also, like in case of my Seiko, I love the noise it makes, and the gliding hand looks kinda neat. Also I have been wanting something mechanical for awhile.

As of today I'm back to minimalist. At a thrift shop, bf and I spotted a bunch of nice watches. He picked up a pretty nice Fossil he really seems to like that still had a tag and protective wrap on (only watch I've seen in a Goodwill that didn't need a battery; expect that Seiko I have) and I picked up a Skagen.

This is the watch I got today:

I always wear a watch. I've gone back to wearing a Seiko watch again after wearing other well known brand names. I've found that the Seiko is the one that people notice and comment on. They are excellent quality, they're stylish, they're affordable, and they seem to attract attention and compliments.

Yes I love them, it depends on my mood and it depends on my shirt/where I am going to which one I wear (I have about 15 of them)...
