Despite protests, violence and homophobic attacks the French government have passed Same Sex Marriage making them the 14th Country to accept same sex marriages!

But the Supreme Court has already indicated that it is not the role of the justice system to define mariage : this difinition has to come from the parliament !

I'm more concerned about the backlash. Just because it's legalized, it does NOT mean it will hold for good. Public acceptance plays a great role. Just look at Californian gay marriage bill, it was overthrown by Prop8, right?

I dont think the homophobic religious in France will sit and accept this. Btw I wonder what Benedict XVI will say? He did urge the people to pray hard for Jesus' intervention to stop gays. What will he say about this, about Jesus I mean? Someone should interview him.

We cannot await that public acceptance will grow up to 100% from one day to another. Not revolution, just evolution. Acceptance and respect is growing and it's cool.

These protests may be scary, but I think it will stop as fast as it started. After all 350.000 demostration is nothig extreme if you realize that population of France is 65 million, and demonstrations in the streets is just something like French national sport. Straight people will realize that there nothing has changed for them. And latent homos will be more and more awkward.

So congrats France!
