I'm a big time car nut, no make that fanatic. In my youth I spent most of my free time running around my uncle's junk yard, looking for parts and working to pay them off. By the time I got out of highschool I owned five cars and a motorcycle, yes I really love cars. The car a person drives tends to say alot about their personality and the qualities they posess or admire. So here's my Question , What do you drive, and what qualities does it reflect in you? What were some of the favorite cars you have owned and regret getting rid of ? Or what was that first car you fell in love with?

What I drive...

I'm a technophobe, I hate anything new and I despise a car I can't work on myself. I drive a 1974 Mercury Monterey with a 315 hp 400ci (6.6 L) V-8. It's big powerful with agility the belies its bulk. It's a very spartan and masculine car with only the bare necessities. It's imposing at first but has a restrained dignified "all business" apperance, and upon closer inspection despite being devoid of any luxury options it's quite comfortable. No pic's yet but it looks like this...

Past fovorites..

My first "junk yard project" (and only foreign car) a 1978 Ford Fiesta, this was originally my mother's car until she drove it into the ground. She told me that if I could fix it, it was mine. After doing a little reasearch on (in the libary, no internet back then) I was stoked! These little bastards came from the factory with detuned versions of Ford's "Kent" racing engine, the same engine used in some old Lotus cars (Lotus added a DOHC 16v head to the Kent block) and my uncle had a totaled out Lotus Europa SCCA race car at his salvage yard, so I did an engine swap. The result was 130 hp in a 1600 lbs car that only had 66 hp from the factory, and alot of pissed of Camero and Mustang drivers getting a good view of my rear bumper. (try and remember that this was long before the fast & furious and the import racer craze, nobody in Amercia hot-rodded a 4 banger back then)

My first "sleeper" (a car that looks stock but has been hot-rodded) a 1968 Cadillac, this was my uncles car and he built it into a 550 hp monster, I spent two summers of "sweat equity" in the junk yard to pay off this car plus $1000, cash

My last 'junk yard project" a 1977 Buick Riveria, someone junked this beauty when they blew the motor in it, I thought it was beautiful, I put in a 340 hp 403 V-8 (from a Pontiac Trans-Am) and a TCI racing transmission $750 and another summer of free labor for my uncle and it was mine.

A 1984 Cadillac Seville, I bought this car for my mother, but these things had reliablity issues, and computers (I couldn't work on it myself) but I loved the attention it got, so after a few years I got her a new car and kept this one as a second car for myself.

My First car...

You never forget our first car, much like loosing you virginity, good or bad, you have fond memories. My mother was into the "Van Kulture" of the '70's and whe I got my license I got the Family car handed down to me (she got the previously mentioned Fiesta) A 1975 Chevy custom van, this was a wedding present from my step dad to her, we did alot of camping so he had it built as a camper in '70's custom drag, shag carpet, oak cabinets, a u-shaped sofa that turned into a bed, bar, Ref., TV, and even a stove, all cleverly hidden away. I had alot of angry dads slam the door in my face when the "Shag Wagon" pulled up and I asked if their daughter was home (they should have been more worried about their sons, lol.)
I don't have any pic's of it, but it looked alot like this..

First car was a Geo Metro. Recently purchased a Jeep. Not sure what that says about me besides my obvious indifference to global climate change.

Intense, if that engine pic is your car, WOW! You put some work and alot of $$$ into that. And I don't really hate the new cars so much as not being able to work on them myself I can't form a bond with them. I got my mother a '96 Olds Elite 98 touring to replace the Seville, and while it's a nice car with all the bells and whistles (including a supercharged fuel-injected 3.8 V-6 with a hyper-chip, momma's got a lead foot, lol) driving it feels bland to me,all newer cars have been so "standardized" so much that driving them they all feel the same. Old cars have their quirks that give them charm. And lets face it hotrodding newer cars is a rich mans game, which I am not. Replacing the transmission in almost any car built in the last 15-20 years will cost upwards of $2000, where as an old GM TH 350 or Ford C4 will cost about $250 and last 3 times as long. I paid over $1200 for the fuel injection in my Seville and only 350 for a new Holly carb. BTW I love the Corodoba, I had a red one just like it.

A Prius? That makes no sense to me, you sound like a fun guy, and Prius drivers despise anything fun...:p

Well, I also have a pick-up truck (Tacoma), but have been driving the Prius for the most part, lately. As soon as the weather warms up I'm sure I'll have something to either haul or move, though! I don't mind getting it dirty. :)

Funny story ..... according to the bank, my Prius has actually increased in value since we bought it last year. I've never heard of that happening.

I still wished I had the Cordoba, I did all the work on it...saved it from the junkyard. It didn't have the fine Corinthian leather seats...they were vinyl...lol

The Mitsubishi, I did some of the work, but paid lots...for another guy to do most of it...it was way, way beyond me...I was lucky just to understand what we were doing, let alone, know how to do it. While i loved to drive it...It didn't feel the same as the Cordoba if you know what I mean. After the final mod on it, only had it for about 6 months till i rolled it...I still cry when I look at the pics. And yeah, insurance company screwed me good on that one.

Wish I had the time to get an old mustang or corvette out of the junkyard and restore it..sigh...

I agree with you about the older cars...I miss them..

I had the SLK for almost 3 years. I recently got rid of the SLK and got myself a CLS550. Totally different ride......much more comfy and lux., but sure one pain in the azz when comes to cleaning. The CLS is 2-3 times bigger than the SLK therefore, it takes 2-3 times longer to clean.....and since it's blk, such a high maintenance color.

While this is back on the front page again, I guess I'll tell you all what happened to my beloved Merc' recently. I'm not sure how I did it but somehow I managed to rip both the rear shocks out of the frame. The poor thing was bouncing up and down like a baby carriage, I couldn't even keep it going straight down the road it was bouncing around so bad, and the garage I took it to was unable to repair it. Lucky for me my uncle has experience building race cars and fabricating the necessary parts and was able to repair it for me and do a little altering in the process. I figured while he was already working under it I'd have some other modifications done, so to go with the new "touring" suspension, I had him remove the quite factory exhaust and build me a custom system with Cherry bomb glass pack mufflers. Now the old girl handles better than ever, more like a Mustang than a Lincoln, and has that proper deep rumble like a big block V-8 should. The only problem is that, now I like to put my foot down even more just to hear it roar, making my already bad gas mileage down right shitty...
