Actually the way it's perceived from outside is different than the reality. I've only visitted once but I wasn't surprised at all to find a really generous and kind people there.
I've said it before on here, you can't judge a people by a country's government. Most governments turn out the same regardless who you vote in. They tend to be the shop window the world judges on, but the people are not necessarily the same as that. It's also true of the UK, those who hate the UK should visit and talk to the real people. You'd find a great self-depracating sense of humour
