I think you are asking for Information Technology but there are many other terms which have the same abbreviation.

By the way I recommand you the British TV series "The IT Crowd"...That's VERY funny, and in one episode, Jen (the female IT team boss) is being asked what "IT" means...she can never answer, it's hilarious !
I don't recall what episode it is. It's in season 3 I believe.
