When I'm Gone - A Serious Question

I know that I never want to face the issue but I've been thinking about it on and off for the past few years...

Most of us have hidden lives collecting porn and using it for our own pleasure. I assume that, for most of us, this is hidden from our families and we would not want them to find out about it.

Question: In case of death or being incapacitated, has anyone done anything to protect your families from your porn collection? I'd love to figure out a way to make sure that my blog and several of external USB hard disks which contain my collection do not fall into their hands. Does anyone know of any self-destruct mechanism so that my computer would go up in smoke if someone else tried to get at it (that would work if I'm dead, but I wouldn't want it to catastrophically destroy everything if some relative wondered into my den and booted up my computer)... Any thoughts, ideas, or musings that you have would be appreciated and might start a productive dialogue.

Relating to this. For those that live alone. If anything happened to you whether taken to hospital for a long period of time or worse premature death and your family did not know about you or the porn habits you had.

What would you do to make sure your family did not find all the naughty files and DVD's that you collected over the years. I was thinking about trusting someone to come to my place and clear it all away before family came into house.

Any thoughts?

Can't you in some way password protect everything? So that even if someone in your family got his/her hands on your stuff, they still wouldn't be able to access the content?
I know it's not 100% bulletproof, and there are probably ways to bypass that (I'm no computer expert so I don't know any ways) but at least it's a first step in securing your possessions.

Entrusting someone is also a way, assuming they do get into the house in time before the family.

Actually I no longer care who finds anything. There isn't, or won't be , anyone that would bother about it. I keep my porn stuff all together anyway so it would be easy to dispose of quickly by someone if needed

From a personal point of view, I come from a liberal family, so it would not be an issue. My Dad keeps his porn on the family computer (all kids have left home now), so if he can do it, I doubt he'll be upset that I do it too

But - to answer your question for your friend, whole disk encryption, and don't save the password. Each time you mount the disk you should have to enter the password, that way, the moment you're not there, the disk will never mount again. An encrypted disk without the key is indistinguishable from random noise, so the data is effectively self-destructed.

One the Mac this is trivial to do, you just format the disk to be encrypted and you're done. I have a feeling it will be a little more involved on the PC, but the free TrueCrypt should be able to do it for you. If you keep all your porn on external disks, and you make sure those disks are encrypted, you're golden!

A slightly harder thing would be to hid your browser history etc.. One fairly easy way you could do that would be to use the portable version of FireFox, and store that on one of the encrypted disks too, that way your history, cookies, passwords, and even temp file are all safely on the external drive, and there is no trace of it at all on the system drive.

Most likely my mother would call one of my computer geek friends to come over and get my system to bring down to her and they all know I'm a porn freak and will wipe my hard drive to set it up for her to use...

ANyways, you have a point. What we do privately is our business, not anyone else's. If you accidentally pass on, you don't want all your business to become the stuff of gossip. Best to keep these things out of the way of prying eyes. Perhaps keeping everything in 'the cloud' is the best solution - not on hard drives.

since everyone in my family have their own private personal computer, we don't really tamper with anyone's PC. but just to be sure, everyone has password protected user accounts, to prevent infiltration when the owner is gone (but actually i know everyone's password, since i do their PCs' maintenance, except for one of my siblings, since that person has some sort of secret she doesn't want anyone to see)

i have a homebrew application which enables me to encrypt folders with passwords, and aside from that, i have my folders hidden. and everyone in my family is a computer illiterate except me (hence only i can maintain their PC's), no one can really access my PC. so yeah, everything within my PC is safe, unless someone commences a brute force attack on my baby, then only then will my secret be breached haha )

To find where I hide the porn you need a good map of my network, understanding of how I sectioned my VLAN structure because there's 35 servers separated in about 14 sub-networks, 5 of them being redundant storage and you need to know which vlan holds it and NO there's no visio of my network only I knows about the real structure of it... but in a way I do have a Blondy Locks who know what to do and how to do it... in fact that little blond bitch have been erasing some of them for quite sometimes now LOL. It's Just funny because frankly I don't care anymore (who needs porn when you have HIM).

And I do believe that what you do in the tranquility of your bedrooms or house as a consenting adult is your darn business and if people find porn on my computer, I'd just say feel free to jerk on it... if I'm to be gone I won't need it anymore, and since I go straight to hell I'll have Satan's whores to care for me :rofl::rofl:

I'm glad that it's all gone digital... back in the day I had a big enough collection of DVDs and magazines to guarantee If I died, any ageing relatives who 'cleared' my house would follow soon afterwards... Now it's all on an external HD, tucked up in a password protected file they would never find... But as for all my Tranny stuff.... Eeeep!

I intend to die "bareback". So no special precautions about my private life. I offered my kids always total privacy. In my opinion privacy should be the first human right. So I don't think they will search my computer for "my porn". But if they do, they will keep that knowledge private, I am sure. In a way it will enrich them, knowing me all the way at the end of my ride. Moreover in Dutch we say: "over de doden niets dan goeds" (De mortuis nihil nisi bonum), what means "we will say nothing but good things about the dead people".
I never felt shame about my Gay feelings. Sometimes inconvenience, but not more than that. I just used my human right to keep it private.

I think password protecting it would be the best way to solve this problem. You could also leave a will that leaves the porn hard drives to a trusted friend, someone who knows about your interest in porn. Just make sure he won't kill you to get your porn collection.
You could also upload your porn collection to one of those on-line storage places, when you stop paying the bill, they will destroy it for you. You could probably password protect the files if your worried about someone online getting access to them.
