Even in this imperfect world, you would be quite suitable for local level school board trusteeship, local civic politics, perhaps as a member of some board of oversight, if they have those in your country. Generally (based on my North American average city), local level politics are quiet and serene, unless a civic official screws up. I serve on the school board and on the police services board, and am welcomed for the moderating influence I bring to those meetings. Didn't have to run an election campaign or buy drinks for anyone, just proposed my name, attached a good CV/résumé, and in due course was asked to speak in front of various citizen groups and answer a few questions about how I viewed my participation. I did, they apparently liked what they saw and heard, and here I am.
Whether we're out to the public or not, we gay men need to take active roles whenever possible in our society. At the very least, we can present a voice of moderation when things seem to shift too far to one side.
