well actually 13 to 18 a boy is considered a young man--a boy is 0 to 12 and a man is 18 and up--
but these days the only time the worry about ages when it comes to the law--you got states that have 12 yr old boys in jail wanting to try them as adults but then according to people a 13 yr old isn't old enough to know what he wants sexually so if he isn't old enough to know what he wants then is he old enough to know right from wrong

but in porn 18 to 19 is boys letting know they are young but up to 23 is twinks so 24 and up are men

I really don't like this about the porn industry. It's something gay porn seems to have learned from straight porn though - they are always on about 'girls' when they mean women.

I can understand why the term makes people uncomfortable. But context is everything."Boy" means more than one thing in gay culture.

  • A young man - The most common meaning. How young? Over 18. How old? See below.
  • Submissive partner - usually younger than the more dominant partner, but not always. In this definition "boy" is a state on mind, more than an age category. Also, ages are relative - to a 50-year-old dom, a 35-year old sub is quite legitimately a "boy".
  • Twink - (short for Twinkie) sometimes used interchangeably, though a twink is more a physical type (young, thin, naïve) than a mental state. The opposite of twink is a hunk.
  • Son - partner of a daddy - not literally, of course; this is a long term relationship. Typically a younger/older pairing - but since this is identity role play, actual chronology does not have to correlate.
  • Prepubescent male (i.e. children, not teenagers) - even though this is the primary dictionary definition, it is the least likely meaning in gay porn and culture. Unfortunately, that kind of thing does exist, but not in the public internet you and I encounter. Could an unethical porn producer try to pass illegal teenagers off as being over 18? It sometimes happens. But a sexually immature child? No way. It's the kiss of death to produce, store, host, transfer or own such material. (Don't get me started on the moral outrage of damage to the children).

As I said, I can understand why people are put off by the term. But that is simply not what is being described or discussed when "Boy" is used in gay porn and culture. It's a much more nuanced code word infused with erotic implications of youth mixed with dominance/submission.

Thank you so much Topdog for this outstanding interpretation of the term "BOY". :thumbs up::thumbs up::thumbs up:

I never used the term "boy"unless the individual's behavior is being displayed as one. I recall a guy that had approached me acting like acting so immature and then he could not understand why I was not interested in him? I like a MAN to act like a MAN because I like being with a MAN not babysit a BOY....

me as a (not so good) non native english speaker never had a thought that the word "boy" would offend anyone this way

Boy ...

...
Informal: A man socializing in a group of men: a night out with the boys.
...

... a grown man, especially when referred to familiarly:
He liked to play poker with the boys.

...
.

...

A big part of the problem is that it makes perfectly innocent websites look highly illegal, and perfectly innocent file names looks really really suspect.

If there were no pedos going around abusing innocent kids the word 'boy' would not be so icky in a porn context.

oh yeah and all straight men abusing little girls...

you should change "straight" to "some" otherwise it sounds kinda labeling. The most straight people i know does not have this oppinion.

Boys is for gender only if the use is informal and since we are a less formal community it should be fine as it already was, just free your mind from that negative shit my dudes :big hug:

there are so many words which have two or more meanings or which can be used in a negative way, should we stop use them because of this?

Sorry but for me this goes in a wrong direction.

Hey! Did you just call me naive? And would you please pass me a Twinkie if you have one?

I'll admit though in the context of sex, and sexual chat, I hate being called a boy. I regularly chat in a chatroom for gay men and I'll get a number of guys that try to open a chat with me with the introduction on "Hey Boy!", or "How you doing today son?" And then I immediately close the chat box.

But in terms of like "I'm going to hang out with the boys", or "the boys and I are going out surfing today", that I'm perfectly fine with. I've been to a few "Boys Night Out's" and most of those guys haven't been actual boys in quite some time.

Though it has always made me stand up a little straighter, and smile a little broader, when someone calls me a "young man".

I liked TopDogs list of definitions. That was great.
