First, I absolutely second brmstn69.
Second, your question implies that there is some guiding hand deciding who will live & who will die. This is a lot like believing that "God" wanted your football team to win.
I know this sounds cynical, but think of it more as an introduction to reality.
My thoughts exactly.
The question should not be "why did this thing happen, which seems so unfair", but rather "What mechanism, if any, exists to guarantee rewards or punishments according to how a person lives?" My answer to that is "None, except that we generate ourselves, via social institutions such as law and the courts and other less official things like the positive responses of other people."
That probably is the same thing as saying there is no god, at least not the kind of god imagined by Christians and Muslims and other religions, who watches us, sees everything we do, and rewards us or punishes us accordingly with eternal bliss or eternal damnation. I tend to shy away from religious discussion in forums such as this, but still the question was asked, and that's my answer.
In my opinion that makes the one life we have on this planet MORE meaningful, not less.
