Let's not forget our history. When they first had gay pride here in Boston, it was a radical
event that took some courage. Some people marched with masks because their jobs, homes, families would be ruined if they were known.
By the late 80s it bacame easier, but for a mainstream politician? Marching with faggots dropping from aids was an act of solidarity, and yes, courage.
It's become more of a party now in most places. But courage still matters. There are people fighting for pride where? Warsaw maybe? Do they even dare in Tehran? I don't know. But there are certainly places where it still matters. At it's core, a gay pride parade is an act of
defiance of bigotry, and an act of affirmation of gay people's humanity.
It only needs to be us against them...if they are against us.
