Things are getting better, in my high school days, the gay kids got their ass kicked every day, now the gay kids get elected class president and prom queen...

I would definitely have to say strides have been made..certainly in the US..but I doubt I will ever see the day a gay couple could walk down the street holding hands without the risk of getting bashed. Very sad.

"I ask this... If there should be an assassination, I would hope that five, ten, one hundred, a thousand would rise. I would like to see every gay lawyer, every gay architect come out - - If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door... And that's all. I ask for the movement to continue. Because it's not about personal gain, not about ego, not about power... it's about the "us's" out there. Not only gays, but the Blacks, the Asians, the disabled, the seniors, the us's. Without hope, the us's give up - I know you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. So you, and you, and you... You gotta give em' hope... you gotta give em' hope." - Harvey Milk -

He's my Hero...(T_T)

Prejudism of any kind is pretty much taboo now in the UK, there are even laws preventing it.

In some ways that's part of the problem for some people. Certain elements of people feel (wrongly) restricted, and with it being in the open it's exposed. When it was more hidden only a few knew about it.

There has & always be prejudism. Education is the only thing that can prevent it. In smaller towns it's probably a lot worse than in the more cosmopolitan cities. The church's preachings against being gay , or even bi for that matter, don't help.

On a more mainstream theme, depite equality laws, women here are often still subject to a 2nd class status in pay and promotional prospects.

There is still a long way to go even in the more enlightened circles, we just have to keep on keeping on!!

Few things are even really accepted by humanity, people will always want an excuse to fight. Be it over religion, sexuality, gender, ethnicity etc.

Homosexuality now is more accepted than it has been for many years, I can't speak from the perspective of someone in the US but I know that in the UK sexuality doesn't really seem very important anymore.

Education has played a major role in this, along with the increase in people coming out, has been the major change. The younger generation is much more accepting of homosexuality and that's where the future lies. Though there will always be people who will point out those who are different I think that focusing on the majority, rather than the minority, is what really counts.

Being gay will be more accepted as time goes past but some people will still use it as a weapon to attack others. As for religion I think its very high and mighty to start pointing the finger. If people really want equality it should be for everyone including those who are religious and it's not our place, no more than it is theirs, to cast blame.

Just my thoughts on that matter.

Unfortunately homophobia is passed down generation by generation. Yes it's something that needs to be outgrown.

in Spain you can get marriage officially, but I think the society don't see homosexuality as something normal, they see I think, as something funny and weird, they have stereotypes, like gay people has a kind of behaviors (move hands, way of dressing, way speaking) and of course they use to think gay people are ass fucking all the time and with different people. I haven't any of those and I'm gay or bi not sure.

Anyway in my country there are some presenters of TV openly gay. Many TV series with gay characters etc, that thing is helpful

for me the worst thing is everybody, assumes you are straight. Would be perfect if that not happens

I read, that some british kids have to read a book called "The Prince And The Price" in the elementary school. That's a nice kind of fighting against homophobia, isn't it? :D

I've never heard of that book so can't comment on it.

1ikki1 - I'm starting to think that most on our UK TV are gay too. Trouble is they're so openly camp and I can't stand that. It's done to amuse, doesn't amuse me any more than drag queens do!

If you go into a gay sauna in London the odds are that 50% are probably married!!

I don't know about the rest of the world, but in America a popular saying is "Gay is the new black" so I guess that means that 10 years from now, Str8 suburban youth will be walking with a swish, talking with a lisp and lip-syncing Cher at karaoke bars...

There is this singer..i`m not sure he`s spanish... Juan Gabriel. He has that lovely song: Abrazame Muy Fuerte. He`s gay and apparently everybody loves him...or his songs.
I wonder, how come when there`s a singer who`s gay... Like George Michael or Elton John or wow, the great Freddy Mercury everyone love them? Every str8 or bi or gay love the singer, the songs, the band? Doesn`t matter if he`s gay or not! They love him! They go to their concerts, buy albums, want autographs! When it`s a celebrity, it doesn`t matter that they butt-fuck all the time! It doesn`t matter what they do in their private life... they`re celebrities! That doesn`t apply to normal people! If a normal person is gay, people would throw stones at him! If a celebrity is gay , people would buy albums, pay for concert tickets, sing their songs, watch their movies or whatever! That`s just not fair!

I think one day it will be accepted..I think the reason why people are so hard on gays is because religion has always taught them it was bad..

Example from NIV Bible:

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

That is one of the reason why I think religion is a crock of s**t.
