WinZip asks for part 4....there is no part 4

Hi I downloaded (via rapidshare) a film split into 3 .rar files but when I try to open them with WinZip it asks for part 4. I don't have part 4 for this film. I can't contact the OP and am fine opening only the 3 parts posted if that is possible but WinZip won't let me do this.

I have tried guessing what the web address to part 4 might be using trial and error from the address of parts 1, 2 and 3 but got nowhere using this method. I have HJ split but that didn't do anything either.

I also tried copying and pasting part 3 in the same folder and renaming it part 4, hoping to "trick" WinZip into thinking the missing part was there, but it would then just ask for the next part (part 5) - all the way up to part 25 (and there is no way this film is 25 parts at 104857 Kb/part).


Is it possible to extract the 3 parts and view them without the 4th? Or another method to figuring out what the address for part 4 is?

Try plugging the name of the first part into google and see if you get a hit that might list the address of the other parts.

I've had this problem and it usually means that one of the parts you've downloaded is incomplete or corrupt. Try re-downloading part 3 but you may have to download the lot unless you can see that parts 1 & 2 are different sizes.

I often download one or two parts of a .rar folder just to check rip quality. If it's shit, I tend not to download the rest.

7-zip (freeware) will let you do this. It will make a file out of however many parts you have. The resulting vid won't play on all software but VLC usually handles it OK. A pop-up box will come up saying the vid file is broken (which it is) and asking if you want to repair it. If you just want to view the vid, click 'no' and VLC should start to play.

This method works with .avi and .mpeg vid formats but I've had no success getting part files in .mp4 .mov or .rm. formats to play on anything.

Thanks tomba, I knew you could play the first piece of HjSplit files but didn't know 7Zip could combine incomplete rar sets.
