Your Best Friend

Your best friend growing up - particularly high school and college. Were they male or female?

This is something where I have always found myself at odds with how most of the other gay men I meet have grown up. It seems like most of them - no matter how gay or straight acting they are, always have a female best friend. I was not like that. I had a girlfriend for a year in High School. Then towards the end of college I started dating, well it was her best friend actually. We were kinda sorta going out for 10 years before we stopped seeing each other for a while. And even now we get together like every week or so. But it has always been guys I have considered my best friends. I simply relate better to them. Am I the only one like that?

I had three best friends. Two guys, one girl. The girl was so good friend cause she lived next door

I'm still friends with the girl, and also with the guys, but the guys live quite far away nowadays. In highschool I had guy and girl friends, like did everyone. It was usually friend groups that hang, and best friends were usually those you had known the longest.

Now my best friends are mostly straight guys, but I also get along with women well.

Almost all of my closest friends both growing up and as an adult have been guys.......Never really hung around many girls ....

My best friend was another gay boy. We met in grade six and our friendship continued until high school when once we cut classes to watch a peplum epic starring Steve Reeves. We were both suspended. We lost touch while I was attending uni but our friendship resumed after I finished and found that he had received training as a tailor and had opened a shop in our hometown. When I immigrated to Canada, I paid him a visit every time I went back and brought him a present each time. I bought him a flask of Gucci cologne called Nobile which he never received because he passed away from kidney failure a week before my trip home.

I was lucky, my best friend growing up was a boy that lived 4 houses from me who was also Gay except back then we didn't know there was a name for our kind. Gays were never talked about in the late 50's and early 60's. We discovered each other in 5th grade and were best friends until 11th grade when we got caught skipping school, I was the church organist at a church across the street from our high school and an English teacher saw us going over there and reported us.
