I love this question when I am out and about. Even took my current boyfriend for surprise when I answered it for him.

I am 40 and most people take me for 27 or 28 in person. I usually have to pull out my ID and show them the birth date for them to believe me.

And yes, I was getting carded for "R" rated movies till I was about 25. That was always embarrassing, but good now. When I was 21 to about 25 I had quiet a few bars think my ID was fake. Even though I've never had a fake ID.

I'd love to hear how far off your age other guys get taken for.

It's all in the way one carries oneself - physicality, attitude, speech, etc. I am routinely taken for around 40-45, but have long passed that marker.;)

I recently turned 42, however, people think I am around the age range of 28-34.

I'm 34 and last time I was carded was when I was 33, buying beer. And here you can buy beer when you're 18 years old :p

Hey there, hi from the geriatrics ward.

I am six months shy of 70. I get pegged currently at mid to late 50's, I suppose it's flattering but I sure don't feel like I did in my fifties. At least not physically. Age really robs you of energy.
Mentally I'm still a late teenager (semi mature).

I was carded in bars and liquor stores until I was 35. It was really annoying to be the only person in the group who had to show ID when many of my friends or coworkers were considerably younger than I.

My sixty year old brother looks even younger than I did. He regularly gets hit on by much younger women (he's straight). Our hair is thick and dark--just a little gray in the sideburns. I'm glad to have hair but am really fed up with people who won't believe that I don't "do" something to it. Why the hell would I lie about it? If you've ever read the directions on a hair color product you'd understand why most men couldn't be bothered!!

I'm 21 but most people assume I'm 16 or 17 years old. I have literally been asked during a lecture if I skipped grades to get into college, or been asked if I've lost my tour group walking around campus. I always get carded for rated R movies. I will probably be carded when I buy alcohol for a VERY long time.

In age I do look younger... 35 - looks 25 and sometimes younger... however if I speak they know I'm 35 because no frikin 18 years old kids have my knowledge or way of thinking... at least not yet. Oh and Rug don't flatter yourself too much for being Asian, many Asian do indeed look young for a certain period of time, but when the first wrinkles appear it's all downhill from there ... the concept of looking old his really just how you perceive yourself and how good you take care of yourself and obviously there's quite a lot of genetics involve. If you look at HRH Prince William, the dude is younger than I am but look so much like he has hit his 40 already... Your environment also plays a lot in your appearances, the way you deal with stress, how you eat etc etc... there's so much more than just age and nationalities because if we go with nationalities I can assure you that black dudes remains very young for a very long time (sometime more than Asians), some of us have natural elastic skin... I can't speak for every black dudes and every Asians but I sure know that for myself I'll have all white hairs before seeing my first wrinkle.;)

As much I can be flattered for being carded when going to buy alcohol it does annoys me... I believe 35 is nothing so bad and I do prefer saying that I'm 35 than 21... god I wouldn't go back to that frikin uncertainty age, questioning who you are again and again until you hit 25... I ENJOY being 35. I'll enjoy being 40, and I'll enjoy being 80... know why? because you being young doesn't make you better... my dude is 25 and my god is he troubled sometimes :)

haha gosh, you guys must have secrets for those youthful looks.

I'm 20 and people think I look 20. Someone thought I looked 22 once haha I was taken aback but I guess it was because I was wearing work clothes, so I guess wearing not wearing skinnyleg jeans automatically adds another 5 years :p

It's amusing how when we're young, we want to be taken for older, more mature guys - and the opposite happens when we get older. I hit puberty fairly early, was shaving regularly at age 14, fully developed in height and musculature by age 16, and easily passed for 21 (the age of majority back then), especially when dressed up in a jacket and tie. Ahh to bring those days back.

Ah totally agree at 14 I couldn't wait to get older... although very athletic I was the shortest and the youngest of my class... at 14 I looked like a 10 years old damn it while some very hairy kids where starting to have a little duvet under their noses, it ,took me another 5 years to see a single hair under my nose... and those were only a hair or two that would grow like weed but then had to remove it because I would look so stupid LOL. Today I am still looking very young... sure I have a little more to shave, but I could never shave it wouldn't matter because it grows in a goatee totally equal and never goes away from the goatee, at 35 I have none of a hair and never did on my chest, no hairy arms, no hairy legs... so I was cursed to look young no matter what. Took me so much time to be able to enter a bar without being carded... I was 25 and still being carded, last day got in a beer store with Blondy Locks and because he's very young looking and so am I the clerk wouldn't even believe either him or I that we had genuine identity card and that I was 35 and that he was 25... I had to remove my skull cap, seek for white hairs which are comfortably hidden under a bunch of black hairs:p and that only then I was able to get away with it.

So socially speaking you must all find it so nice to look young and all... but having looked young all my darn teenage years I'm so happy to say I'm not a frikin 21 years old... I am 35 and darn proud of it... closer to death than a 21 years old "in theory" (since no one knows there time and day of death)... but so far away from that tumultuous teenage life.;) So teenagers aged 18 to 25 I so don't envy you, you have no idea :rofl::rofl:

I'm 25 and I look like my age.

Funny, but I always wanted to look bit older during my earlier 20s. Though I must admit when I discovered my first few grey hair some months back, I began hyperventilating.

You know that you must look just fine by looking your age... those who gratified themselves from looking younger than their actual ages and believe that it is a given must have something to hide, there's no secret, there's no magic potion, just feel blessed from looking your age... I sure wanna look 50 when I'll turn 50 but I know I won't :)

I look my age , always have. Only got carded once in my lifetime, and inexplicably that was at age 35. In Venice Beach , CA no less - a place not known for rigid adherence to the law. I think they just card everyone there.

It wasn't until 18 that my height peaked and its just taking me some more time to grow facial hair. Guess we develop at our out rate ;) So having a rather slim face with basically little facial hair and some people assume I'm a teenager! They are entitled to their opinion, i don't find it flattering in fact it leaves me indifferent. I'm pretty sure i won't always look 5 years younger my whole life!

You guys shouldn't be too worried about getting older, so many of hottest celebrities (for example) are 40 years and older. We women are expected to look like 20 years old no matter our own age ;)

I am currently 40 years old. And have always had that shocking reaction when I have told people how old I am. I would not want to relive my 20's, I love my current life. But I am just confused on how a forty year old is suppose to look. I just can not see myself wearing black socks with sandels, and plaid shorts above the stomach.

So Agree I just wonder really what a 40 years old should look... I recall when I was 20 I had the vision of 30 + to be sooo frikin old... and having pass the cap of the 30th frankly I didn't really see the difference of what I looked like 15 years ago... beside the part that I was dressed like a teen from the 90s. I'm 35 now, I have a house, a boat, two cars, two teens and a life... at 20 I had a new born baby girl, an ongoing university BA to finish, few years of gay porn I did which wasn't that far behind me back then, was living in a rented house... couldn't put gas in the car which was about to die just looking at it... and I had continuous head aches and was wondering how the hell was I going to joggle with all that crap... but hey I looked young so I must have been happy :rofl::rofl: Hell No I wasn't the 20 up to 25 were very difficult years even though I managed to have my own house at 23... it was work work work, study study study, parenting parenting parenting, barely had time to fuck fuck fuck LOL. :p But hey at 20 I looked like I was 17 wooooow that helped me sooooo much LOL. I recall from 20 to 22 I might have had sex 10 times in 2 years... compare to 20 times in 3 weeks few years before. So what are we suppose to look like at 40... I don't know but I sure don't want to look like I was in my 20s.X_X

Err, you now have reached the age where you have fashion sense. Your instincts easily tell you what looks good on you. Definitely avoid youth fashion, if you agree it looks stupid on an 18yo, it looks doubly stupid on a 40 yo. No sagging, no pink hair.
.
.Why do you even mention those stupid fashion cliches above? Why can't you instead choose to dress with pizazz, contemporary style, leading edge fashion, and understated cool?. Please don't tell me you can't put together something which is leading edge, and complimentary. Don't tell me you can't match colors. If you aren't confident picking out a tie, then copy whats on prematched shirts/ties in the stores.

You can put on a jacket or dress coat and know instintively that it fits you, looks good in the mirror, gives you a certain confidence, and the material feels good to your hand. Stay away from most items with big gaudy designer labels as most of that stuff is badly made overpriced crap. Plus you don't want to ever be a walking advertisement of someone else.

It helps an awful lot if you keep in good shape. Plus your choice of clothes is much better at lower cost. IOWs , its much easier to find a 32" waist pants than a 42".

Try to shop at slightly better department or men's stores. Walmart is ok for underwear and socks but go to Kohl's level stores for everything else. Again look at the mannequins to get hints/ideas or even copy the look completely. I've done this a couple of times for big holiday parties. That is copied the outfit on a mannequin. I got several compliments on my New Years Eve party clothes last year, little did they know I copied the whole look from a store mannequin.

Stay far away from gimmicks and burn't out fashion . When it shows up in Sears/Walmart, its time to toss it. An example is excessive cargo pockets, they were leading edge 15 years ago, not now.

Oh yeah, get a contemporary haircut.
