Two Gay Men Are Finalists in PETA's 'Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door' Contest

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters. They also do a number of great promotional campaigns (Remember the nude/shirtless celeb pics from a couple years back?) and the current one is their "Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door" contest, where two lucky winners (one male and one female) will each receive a free trip to Hawaii, courtesy of the PETA Member Advantage Program. Two of the guys in the running are openly gay, 28-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., resident Zachary Koval (left) and 23-year-old Mark Kostedt of Maryland Heights, Mo. (right).

May the joking commence...

I spent nearly 20 years as a sick and depraved individual in that case

I still rarely eat meat at home even though I "lapsed" a while ago, but will eat it more often if I'm out but it was amazing how over-defensive of meat I found some people were when it was ever discussed, the unenlightened ones anyway Always made me laugh, it's not like anyone is forcing anyone else.

I'm surprised they've managed to stay in such good shape as vegetarians. I'm not sure what's healthier, no meat and a ton of pills, potions and supplements or a regular diet with a bit of lean chicken, fish or meat for the essential amino acids. If they need a dose of protein they're welcome to a piece of my meat

You can be vegetarian and get the essentials with hordes of pills.

Being vegetarian is possible without having to resort to any pills and such. It just requires that you have better knowledge in nutrition so that you get enough of the nutrients you'd normally wouldn't have to think about if you eat meat.

Don't confuse vegetarian with vegan.

I never took pills, and I wouldn't say my diet was always healthy, you can still eat plenty of junk ! Pulses are some of the best things you can eat and chick peas have the same protein as lean beef.

The beauty of veggie food, even though I do eat meat again now, is how wonderfully tasty it can be when you remove the concept of always having to have meat in it.

A confirmed meat eater friend had one of my chillis some years ago, he was very dubious about it, but at the end he did actually seem surprised and said that he didn't even miss the meat! I do put loads into them , and to me it's far more interesting than any meat based version. I didn't use any imitation substitute either, it was all pure veggies and beans and spices.

And damn I'm making myself hungry

What kinda life would you be living if you didn't even occasionally indulge in a big mac, KFC or a hotdog every now and then?

Besides I too went through a veggie phase in college and put on 4 stone eating pizza, bread, pasta and a ton of carbs. Veggie food is only good if you know what to cook and how to cook it. I've had good veggie food but not good enough to turn me off meat.

A perfectly fine life. I'm a vegetarian and have been one since 2005. I don't miss meat one bit. Having said that, the reason I'm a vegetarian is because I very much do not like the taste of any animal, land or sea.

I wouldn't go that far, everyone has the right to adhere to whatever dietary options they choose. What I don't like is when the militant ones who don't recognize this.

However, I don't like PETA as an organization. It's well doented that they've done far more damage and harm to animals than good with their antics. There are many other laudable organizations that are more worthy of public support.
