3D games are here... and you don't need glasses

HOLLYWOOD films won't be the only entertainment to gain an extra dimension this year after two video game giants revealed plans to make their titles available in 3D.

In back-to-back announcements at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, Nintendo and Sony laid out their plans to make gaming even more immersive.

Nintendo showed off a 3D version of its popular DS handheld games console that can be used without having to wear special glasses.

The 3DS features a 3.5" autostereoscopic 3D screen, which can be viewed without the use of active 3D glasses, and a touchscreen below it.

The "depth" of the 3D image can be controlled with a switch at its side.

And, in a surprise to gaming fans, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata also showed off two cameras on the front capable of capturing 3D photographs.

I've heard some positive things about the 3DS from E3. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

it sounds cool and all--but what gets me is the versions of ds out there from the original to dslite to dsi dsi xl and now this--if they plan on the new ds to do good they need to change the title to something else or parents wont understand it is a new handheld not the same one previously bought--and the price tag needs to be dead on or it will flop--plus i wonder if they are going to release games from the ds in 3d format to get more money from the consumer or they plan on letting updates to previous titles do it like they are on the ps3

i cant wait to see what games they`ll make for it

i wonder if all the carts for playing downloaded games will still work
