I wish we had the option to include our location on our avatars. It would make replying to posts in discussions such as this one much easier if I knew the background of the poster.

@stonecold: poofterbashing by cops certainly occurred in Australia not so long ago, but it's not exactly news to anybody here, certainly not to gay men. There is a famous case from the 1960s. Police invaded a night-time gay beat in Adelaide and playfully threw one of the men into the river. Unfortunately the man, who happened to be a respected academic, could not swim and drowned.

That may not have been the first such case, but it was the first one that came to the attention of the general public, and it probably laid the seeds for changes in the law and changes in public attitudes. It was not long after that that South Australians elected Don Dunstan as state premier - a man who led the way in decriminalising homosexuality and in changing community attitudes to people who were "different". Famously, on one occasion he wore pink shorts in parliament.

Police poofter-bashing happened here, but I think you are kidding yourself if you think it did/does not happen elsewhere.

I know all countries have terrible cases of anti Gay violence in their past and America has had their fair share. I am just saying after seeing in Australian news that this went on until 1999 that I can understand why some people don't want to come out. I can understand why they don't in some states in America to this very day. The brother of one of the victims pushed for an investigation for 28 years before anything was done.

Today, it is extraordinary to think that we would not have had an open discussion about what happened. And if we had, it might have prevented it happening to someone else.

“We can now see that predators were attacking gay men,” says Ted Pickering, the police minister for New South Wales in the ’80s.

“And they were doing it with the almost-certain knowledge that the police would not have gone after them. That was the police culture of the day.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Tomsen, a criminologist at Western Sydney University, doesn’t think the review is any sort of adequate response.

“It may be tempting for the police to concentrate on merely relabeling crimes rather than doing fresh detective work to solve them,” he says.

I think the fact there is still not an adequate response in 2017 should at least allow some sort of understanding for those not wanting to come out.

One thing I forgot to add is that all states here either have, or are planning to, legislate to expunge convictions for homosexual behaviour that were imposed at a time when it was illegal. Some may say this is mostly symbolic, but many of those men (they are all men, as far as I know) are still alive, and it's probably a pretty important step for them. Apart from that, of course, even if it were only symbolism, it's pretty strong symbolism to say "this law should never have been on the statute books and we no longer believe it to have been a crime."

The best is when you're in a committed, monogamous relationship with someone that is dedicated to and loves you.

The best EVERYTHING, including sex.

You can try anything with the one you love.

Watch a porn, see something you like - and replicate it with them. BOOM BOOM POW!!!

I think porn may be a way of giving you ideas, but I don't recommend it as an instruction tool, "This is how it's done, guys." I'm starting to think that too many guys watch porn and think "this is how I am expected to behave during sex". I get rather annoyed with those who, when I am having sex with them, repeat all the stereotypical porn lines such as "Oh yeah man, suck that dick,". I feel like saying "Shut up, I know what to do."

I don't think porn is an instruction manual at all - but it can be a fun way of exploring different sexual moves, methods, and other fun ways to have sex.

My husband and I watch porn and try certain things we see in them and enjoy. Its a fun way to add new elements to the sexual experience and keep it fresh and exciting.

Think of it as expanding your sexual repriotre.

But to each his or her own; stuff like this is subjective and there is no "right" or "wrong" way to go about this.

This is a very good objection! And I think too that it should be possible to do that. In many ways it would be an enrichment for a better knowledge of the motives of the members here. What's wrong with it?

So my question to the administrators here - could you make it possible? Perhaps with a little flag in the profile????

Guys what do you think?

I think that remark about including someones location to gain insight on their background is a little ignorant.

Who says we are a product of our environment? There are good, bad, ignorant and enlightened people in every city, every state, and every territory of the world.

Knowing where the next poster lives doesnt tell me a thing about the type of person they are - their posts, actions and words do.

Implying that someone can only be as good or as intellectually vast as their surroundings, and that a person should be analyzed and labeled based on their current location is pretty discriminatory.

For example: you could be from New York and post that on your profile. Well, what is that supposed to tell me about your background? NOTHING, unless i decided to be petty and try to hold you to some stereotype of how people who live in NYC are supposed to be, allegedly.

You know what I mean?

Im not trying to insult anyone or anything, and if my typing comes across like that - please know I do NOT intend to offend you based on your suggestion.

Its just a person's location doesnt tell you what type of person they are, or their background.

People can go against the grain and have their own mind. I dont believe in boxing someone into a stereotype, or saying to myself "ahh, this person lives in (insert name here), so that must mean their background is X + Y".

Thats rather juvenile.

I base my opinion of people by how they act, not where they live.

Again, not trying to offend anyone - its all love where im coming from :)

Wait, sorry - I didnt read all of the prior posts before i made my comment.

It seems you guys were talking about hate crimes and other LGBT issues in different parts of the world- so your location comment was about that.

Sorry, i only read the comment about the suggestion and thought you were saying that in general terms.

My bad <3
