Just to calm everybody down, the producer has confirmed that Alexander will be back next season as a regular cast member. So one can assume he survives his human torch act.
Also, he was quick to say than Tara's mother did not infect her with Hep-V...

When the show first started, I found it really boring so I didn't watch the first couple of seasons. I'm not sure the history behind Tara and her mother (other than what was mentioned in the last few seasons)... so I never would've imagined her mother would infect her daughter. That would've been so very awful.

Actually, the first 2 seasons are really gay friendly/oriented seasons compare to the past 2 seasons. I urge you to binge watch them.
Tara and her mother story arc didn't really took off until this season I think. Tara hates her mother because the mother is negligent and drunk.
