Do you mean Shockwave Flash, or Flash? (I know they sound the same, but they are absolutely not).
Shockwave is ancient tech that you almost certainly don't need. If that's what you have installed, my advice would be to remove it. It's riddled with security holes.
If you mean Flash, then I'd suggest un-installing it and then re-installing it, or, using Chrome, it has it's own built-in version of Flash that it keeps up to date for you.

In case anyone cares, Shockware was an old Macromedia plugin that Adobe aquired when they bought Macromedia. Rather than killing Shockwave they decided to re-brand it 'Shockwave flash', because at that time, their Flash plugin was a hip-and-happenin' thing. Adobe abandoned development of Shockwave years ago, and it fell out of use on the web years ago.
