Due to the pandemic within about six to eight weeks every single man on planet earth will, like it or not, have Bobby Ewing hair.

So GH stylists, your advise? Give us some tips for amateur hair-cutting during these times of desperation

We have been cutting our own hair for the last twenty years, principally for reasons of poverty. It's not that hard to do. You will never get a fashionable or stylish look but as long as people in the street don't actualy laugh, that's good enough for me. The first attempt will awful but as with anything else, the more you do it, the better you get at it.

I managed to get a No.4 buzz-cut all over about 6 hrs before the govt. shut them all down so I'm gonna be OK for a while …. but I might need to check back here in a few months for advice

There's a guy at work who shaves his head. I've "volunteered" him as the department barber.
"You can get any style you like...as long as it's bald"!

As of yet, nobody has scheduled him.

I was thinking about this and one option is to wear a beanie hat all the time.

Another is lashings of gel.

Barbers may not reopen for six months... on average how much hair growth is that I wonder.

Well, one hair is growing per month 1 cm - 1,5 cm (0,39 inch - 0,59 inch).
So in six month your hair has growing up to 6 cm - 9 cm (2,36 inches - 3,54 inches). My hair just now is 5 cm (1,97 inches) long - so perhaps in 6 months I will have a quiff of perhaps 13 cm (5,12 inches).:eek::eek:X_XX_XX_X

Making my day!!! It's just hilarious! :)

Great thing is that I managed to get a good extra-short haircut on Monday last week...I don't think I look like Jim Carey :D

I'm thinking it might be an interesting time to give in & just shave off the lot. It would also solve the dwindling shampoo situation.

I used to use clippers just for for a number 4 or 3 all over, it's a bit difficult to get style on your own, if you have a mate (make sure they are trustworthy!) they could have go.

I was always told I looked like a thug when I had done my own hair, but when your out of work £10 for a hair cut could be spent elsewere.

Good luck to all who try this for themselves :)

I do not have the skill to cut my own hair, I can barely do a straight like when I touch up my beard haha. Not sure what I am going to do, though I only get the side trimmed and am growing out the top and back.

I had gotten a haircut - # 3 razor - about two weeks the shutdowns started so I'm still pretty good with a bit of gel. If this takes too much longer though I will be in trouble. My hair tends to grow upwards and a little wavy so I will end with a bit of an Elvis sort of thing going on or early Lyle Lovett maybe even Buster Poindexter. I will be investing in a lot of heavy duty gel for sure.

If I were still a student or work in some capacity where I am not the center of attention for many pairs of eyes, then I'd trim my own hair. I tried it once when I was a freshman; it wasn't so "bad." It was more sanitary than some cheaper barbers who cut my hair.

My barber has reopened. Yay! You wait outside until it's your turn.
I went yesterday. I just had to wait 20 minutes.
It feels GREAT!
