Canadian life advice?

Hey guys!
I'm a latino software developer thinking about moving to Canada next year (if I'm lucky), but I'd like to ask for some resident's advice from now. I've never been into Canada, but UX/UI developers are really needed there (and really well paid, unlike my actual country cough cough), and I really love English and I'd love to learn Canadian French someday.
Despite everything, I've read some "don't come to Canada, it isn't what it looks like" comments from chilean people in Migratory Groups in Facebook, but I'd like to reach some LGBT Canadian residents to ask some advice. Here in Chile, living as a gay man is still really hard and I constantly deal with this fear of being hurt (or even killed) for my sexual orientation.

Maybe I could find any other gay software developer to guide me? hahaha

I live in Canada for last 15 years and as much as it is not now what was 10 or 15 years ago, but regarding LGBT+ freedom of choice - this is the good place. Of course, it really depends about the city you chose. Big cities (Toronto, Vancouver...) are overpriced for everything (from renting the space for living to food and other daily necessities.
