Chat-Room??????

As an former staff member, here's my two cents:

This has been an issue for so long and some of us know/ should know that it is not that simple. First of all the staff here is doing everything for free, they are volunteering to spend their free time here keeping the forum working. Adding the chat would definitely be more work for them and yes, the chat has to be monitored. I have too much experience from the trolls in the chat rooms.

Second the V-Bulletin version that the GH Forum uses is too old to support a chat room.

I didn't say you were a troll, it was just that there are occasional trolls in chat rooms, and about your question, there's nothing wrong in asking and suggesting. The active members keeps the forum alive

No, of course not. There are living trolls and there are troll-bots.

If you ask the question how much effort a shoutbox at gay-heaven might cause, it is best to look at other comparable gay forums with shoutboxes. I can name three forums. One you know yourself. With all three forums you have to log in before you see the shoutbox and before you can write a shout. With one of them you need to write 25 posts before you can shout anyway.

As I've said: in those gay forums (who are like this there) there are on about five shouts a day, not more. And there is no problem with people or bots making ads as well. I visit those forums since 2008.

It may be different with forums, that aim at a different clientle but that's something else.

You guys who are lobbing for shout box maybe should think about (re)joining the greens. Cos it would be an extra job for them. There are 10 mods at the moment, I remember there was 14 or 15 last year (including me) and even then we had a lot of work in whole forum ... so they possibly have 50% more work now than last year and you want them to monitor shout box ideally constantly 24hours. I'm rather not trying to guess what they are thinking about you right now... :rofl:

This is not possible for a variety of reasons. Reasonable reasons.

In my own experience with shoutboxes and chat rooms the Moderating was not the problem. It was all the little glitches that popped up over and over slowing down or causing crashes. We spent more time dealing with that than any other problem.

If we were not online or at least available 24/7 to restart the server people would complain about the down time. It just became too big of a headache so we removed the shoutbox from the forum. We eventually had to close the Chat Room site too but the Chat room had other problems besides crashing, lol.

The idea of a shoutbox sounds good on paper but unless you can have someone available to deal with tech issues 24/7 it's not such a good idea to start one.

Again - this is my own 'personal opinion' - I don't want to have to produce doentation to validate my opinion :rofl:
