My cousin just posted a picture of her mother on FaceBook the other day and I got a bit of a shock when I saw it.

You see, my aunt is 68, has breast cancer and is on chemo. As expected, there is some hair loss which she is a little upset about. What really upset her though was that she was told she would loose all of her hair, but instead she just lost it on the sides. And what was left has turned blood red.

So now she has shaped it into a mohawk and gelled it into spikes...

Fuck yeah! Good on her! I really love to see it when people fighting cancer just sorta say 'fuck you' to the whole thing and keep a lighter side to it all! Like my nan, who sadly seems to be losing her battle at this point, has spent the entire time going 'well fuck it, who cares if I lose my hair, less effort in the morning in the end isn't it?'

Really admire people like that. Brings a tear to my eye actually..

It really helps that she has an IQ over 150 and like most genuineness, she's completely and utterly insane (no joking, she really is crazy. She just got out of two weeks stay in the psych ward about 3 months ago) and now she's taken to wearing a big red clown nose to chemo to help cheer up the other patients.

Hope things start looking up for your nan...:)

Wow, definitely an inspiration right there! My nan is a grumpy old cow, so you never get that really haha!

Hopefully I'll get to go see my nan soon, spend a little time with her. Worried it'll be the last chance I get...

Wow! Very good for her! A right attitude can be a step towards the winning against the disease! I wish my mom was so "strong" ...when she started losing her hair she just decided to shave it all off... so she was bald for a few weeks...And she was married to this horrible man...but did she do antyhing about it? NO. She just let him continue ruining her life even during the disease fight...
If I ever get that disease I`m gonna do all the craziest and funny and dangerous things I always wanted to do but never had the guts...like bungee jumping, parachuting, learn how to ski and skate, maybe do some ski jumping or other extreme sports ;)

I sympathize your aunt for being that strong and like someone said earlier saying: "fuck to all this shit!"

I agree....truly an inspiration. That is fighting fire with fire and having that positive attutude must have a profound affect on your aunt's outlook and bless your cousin and those around her for keeping an upbeat, hopeful mood and not letting the disease get the upper hand. Thats important for your aunt...just as depression can kill, optimism can be a life saver. My very best to your aunt, brmstn69, and her family and let her know what a great reminder she will serve to so many women (and men) that hope heals.

That is truly something beautiful to witness, K. And you need a little bit of crazy in this world to survive just about everything; I definitely have nothing but the utmost respect for her showing people that she's not letting this disease overcome her; she's living and that photo proves it. :)

Much continued good wishes on my behalf, buddy.

Yes, the chemo caused it. But I guess I should have said Marlboro red, or something other than blood, lol. Whatever you want to call it, it's not even close to a natural shade of red hair...:p
