The first Citroën is hundred

June 4th 1919, the first Citroën is delivered. It is a torpedo Type A bought again by the firm in early thirties. At this time the car has 300.000 kms and it is used as you can see on the right photo.
In 1919 André Citroën, 41 yo, director of Mors Automobiles, is not a newbie in car industry. He creates his own company at Paris (Quai de Javel instead of the shell manufactory) nearly in front of Louis Renault who is an old college mate. Louis Renault is worried, he is right. ;)

The first Type A restored

Citroën Type A, the first european car build in serie. It can make smiling today when you look at the photos, but 30 or 35 cars by day of the same model, it was totally new in 1919. Type A was a kind of Ford T in smaller, 10 years after.

I seriously doubt they will become classics. They just dont fit any of the normal criteria. There will always be a small portion of people who may want to own or collect them but that doesnt make them a classic.
I agree, a Citroën will be never a classic car ! ;)

About classic cars, I remember some discussions without end when every year it was the "Coupes de l'Age d'Or" at the ring of Montlhéry (France). The main subject was what car may enter in the middle of the ring and what car is not allowed... It was interminable and I think without interest. My own definition would be the one of inspector Columbo when he speaked about his own classic car, his Peugeot 403 convertible. He said : "there are only 3 in USA" and in his mind it was enough for being a classic car. Indeed, at this age the pollution issue already existed but nobody paid attention to it. Anyway, the car that do not pollute is the one that do not travel.

Une voiture arrêtée dans le garage ne pollue pas, tandis qu'un cheval pollue et consomme même s'il reste inactif dans une écurie. C'est pourquoi mes chevaux préférés sont ceux du moteur (HP).

A car stopped in the garage does not pollute, while a horse pollutes and consumes even if it remains inactive in a stable.
For this reason, my favorite horses are those of the engine (HP)
