Two stars in late thirties

Bugatti type 57 Atalante, the favorite of the elegance contest

Voisin Aerosport, outstanding on the road but too in advance for its time
Do you imagine Jean Bugatti testing a type 57 and meeting Gabriel Voisin at the wheel of an Aerosport ? It would be the race, sure! ;)

Quai de Javel, Quai André Citroën (Paris 15°)

No new model without new factory, André Citroën rebuilt entirely his industrial tool in 1933, one year before the presentation of his new range of models 7, 11, 22 quickly named Traction by the public.

Wedding of body with mechanical on a "old Rosalie" still producted at Javel beside the Traction during several years.

Spring 1934 : first 7A or 7B in the gigantic delivery hall

The big clock was the only thing saved by a collector when the factory was destroyed in 1982.

A big banquet of 6000 persons in the delivery hall for the inauguration in october 1933.

In 1934, Citroën producted still a lot of "Rosalie" rear propulsion.

English enginners coming from Slough are posing beside a brand new Traction

Javel was rebuilt for the third time in 1945 after 2 bombings.
Traction, ID, DS, SM, van H and several truck models were producted until 1976. Today a lot of people don't know that several thousand workers lived some hard (and sometimes happy) moments in this area of Paris. Quai de Javel became Quai André Citroën in 1958.

Thank you for this charming old film. Lots of hard working sweaty men, I like it.
The music is good too. There was more dignity of labour then, even with the absence of any safety protection. In a modern car plant the men are only there to help the robots, the opposite of the machine in the service of mankind.
