Saab : From 96 to powerful 900 Turbo 16V

Saab presented new model 99 in 1967

In 1978 the old Swedish plane constructor inaugurated 900, an upperclass development of his model 99. Glamorous convertible and performing 900 Turbo 16V were especially successful.

Still produced in early seventies, I forgot the Saab Sonett, a small sport coach in polyester resin made on a 96-V4 base and mainly intended for the American market. (Sonett III)

Matra ads published after his first victory at 24H du Mans (MS 670 - June 1972).
The French constructor will win this race in 1973 and 1974 too.

Another Matra ads published in autumn 1971 for the presentation of his new model 530 SX, a simplified 530 LX.

60 years ago, the last Paris Motorshow under the huge glass roof of "Grand Palais" (1901-1961)

Some new models of the exposure

As allways, face to face, Renault and Citroën. Here 4L VS Ami 6.
A special podium for Renault 4 allows to visitors to test suspension flexibility.

NSU Prinz IV and Simca 1000 are not the last small cars with rear engine, following year will appear Renault 8 then Fiat 850 and Hillman IMP. It was still the diversity at this time.

Peugeot 404 convertible, like the coach, is designed by Pininfarina

Facel II and foreground its engine V8 Chrysler Typhoon 6.3 liter, 15 times the cylinder of a 2CV, 30 x the power. The price of this coach is 11 times the one of a 2CV, the weight 3.3 and the speed "only" 3 times (240 km/h). Sold with an automatic gearbox Chrysler, a mechanical Facel II is available with Pont à Mousson 4 speeds gearbox for 1000 F extra (total : 54000 F).
A good car for Facel that compensate for all the Facellia issues, for a short time only !

From low to high : Chapron, Panhard, Simca, Citroën.

The fabulous Jaguar E type at Paris for the first time.

On the Alfa-Romeo stand, no news.
Left : Giulia Zagato and Giulietta Spider.
Right : 2600 saloon and coach.
