I can not really name a favorite work since many many classical works generate a feeling of uniqueness and deep emotion into me.

You'll hear this music broadcasted from the Concert Hall in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 10, late in the afternoon. It's the Nobel Prize Ceremony of course, and the music is Hugo Alfven : Festival Overture, op. 25.

Still in mood for the light pieces,

here is another fresh and vivid piece of music - the "Spanish March" of Johann Strauss jr.

Again, Franz Welser-Moest conducting the Vienna Philharmonic

Dedicated to BigSal

The following slow movement from Johann Sebastian Bach's Double Concerto
for 2 violins I want to dedicate especially to BigSal today

The outstanding David Oistrach plays together with his son Igor.

It is such a deep going and calm movement and also very emotional for me.

Sal, I hope you enjoy this  :big hug:

Maurice Ravel: Piano Concerto

The following slow movement is from the Piano Concerto of Maurice Ravel and
played by Helene Grimaud, one of my favourite LIVING pianists.

This lyrical movement offers such a depth and also wideness and the slow
pulse that is always there gives you just a feeling of comfort and totally relaxation.

It is full of so many expressions and needs to be shared in this thread!!

Enjoy guys

Today something that really hunts me and doesn't let my mind go...

I know about parody in baroque times and that everything from Bach sounds differently and alike at the same time but does anybody has an input, in which other piece music can be found that is much similar to this:

Anything by Brahms. Hungarian Dance #5 is my fave though.

Have you known that composing music with sport theme was olympic discipline in the past? This song won silver medal at summer olympics in L.A. in 1932.

@tomcat34

Kathleen Battle is so beautiful and Karajan was such a big supporter of her.

I so love the "Zerlina" of Kathleen Battle in Mozart's "Don Giovanni" under Herbert von Karajan in the recording from 1987's Salzburg Festival too

This is just beautiful

Jose "Pepe" Carreras singing a part from Verdi's "Messa da Requiem"

Maestro von Karajan conducting the Vienna Philharmonic in one of his "Legacy" filmed concerts from 1984

Aww, I wish the Vienna Philharmonic would play with such sensitivity nowadays
