For some of you this might be an unknown composer "Peter van Anrooy", in 1901 he composed the "Piet Hein Rhapsody", the march of Piet Hein is a traditional Holland marching song which dates back to the 18th century, it is performed by the "Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy", hope you enjoy!

Sometimes there are composers who are able to put the essence of an era into music and Robert Schumann, although underestimated, is one of those.

I feel the same and have thought exactly the same more than once.

Hi guys,

finally somebody has uploaded a decent version of one of my fave cantatas, so I can post without of JSB - BWV 137 "Lobet den Herrn"

This version is with Ton Koopman, who had done the best cycle of cantatas in my opinion.

Still waiting for BWV 197 "Gott ist unsre Zuversicht", which still is only available in cheesy or schmaltzy recordings.

My favourite is definitely Ich Habe Genug, although that has only been so for the last year probably. I am a fan of Gardiner, perhaps we had this discussion before.

But I am listening to this at the moment:

And also:

All 3 are related, if you understand the very Byzantine roots of Russian music.

I am a late arrival to this post but pleased to see a good eclectic mix. I'm more of an opera buff so a couple of my favourites:-
Callas at her best - Lady Macbeth and La Gioconda.
Gigli at his best - Verdi's requiem, The Ingemisco in particular
Schwazkopf at her best - Dr Rosenkavalier
Fishcher-Dieskau at his best - Arabella (Mandryka)
Sutherland at her best - Lucia of course.
Better stop now or I'll get carried away. I've already given my age away!

To all you guys who can shed tears over a piece of music - join the club: Emotions should be let out.

Have just listened to Shostakovich Piano Concerto No 2 in F Opus 102 - Andante (second movement). There aren't many slow movements more beautiful than this - check it out and I'm sure you'll agree

If it is beautful, why don't you share it in this thread?

Would definitely be worthy to listen to :)

Agreed. I'm usually reluctant to search on my own for pieces that people share here. It's not so much the (minor) hassle of finding it but the chance that I won't be listening to the exact same performance/recording that they mentioned/have in mind. A Youtube link or even just an image of the cd that it's recorded on would help a lot. :)
