I have internet and cable through Suddenlink and their internet is really fast and almost always work. The cable is a different story and during the MLB playoffs, they had all kinds of glitches so I got Hulu live. Hulu live works really good but now I see YouTube now has live tv as well. I am wondering if there are any cord cutters here and what you find best.

Not really a cord cutter...
I have Spectrum cable for both TV and internet, but I never really watch any of my regular shows live. I work nights and when I get home from work I go to my favorite pirate site (I have several bookmarked in case one goes down) and download all the shows I missed that day and watch them at my leisure. As far as live TV goes, I usually just have Adult swim on the cartoon network or Doctor Who re-runs on BBC America playing in the background...

I've just got my own cords again, so not about to cut them. I have both cable television and internet and everything works just fine. I just have the basic television package since I'm not a huge TV watcher. I watch a lot of stuff for free off of YouTube, and I do have a NetFlix subscription too. I think that there are just way to many different options: YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Spectrum, Comcast, Dish. I do like all the choices, but sometimes I think my parents had it easy when the choices were PBS, ABC, NBC, & CBS and that was it. lol.

Thanks Razz - I work for one of those "cord" companies in the US and we're seeing some people go away. Fortunately my company is pretty forward thinking and always moving ahead of trends so I hope I'll be okay for awhile. In the meantime, I'll send you a friend request. I might need to move in with you someday:)

PEACE!

I'm on day three with out cable or phone. I kept the internet, I'm not a savage...

So far, so good. I haven't loaded my rifle and headed to the nearest bell tower yet. I still have my $10 pre-paid cell phone for emergency.

To be honest, I think my cat is handling it worse than I have. I used to leave the TV on when I wasn't home to keep him company. Now when I come home from work he acts like he hasn't seen me for weeks instead of a few hours...

You know, the only thing you need for TV is an antenna. If you are in the city or suburbs, a good HD standard antenna is less than $30. If you are in a rural area you would need a powered antenna - still less than $90. It sure beats paying a cable bill, but at least you have local news and ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS.

To be honest, I haven't got $30 to my name at the moment. I've been reluctant to discuss this here because, well... It's a major downer and people have problems of their own and don't need to hear about mine.

But here goes...

I've missed quite a bit of work recently and 3 weeks ago I had to have another heart surgery. Normally that would not be much an issue as I have pretty good insurance. I don't make much money, but my benefits compensate.

The real issue is my mother. Last year she fell out of her wheelchair and sprained her ankle. At the time we didn't have a wheelchair ramp and she was unable to get to the car to go for treatment. She also stubbed her toe when she fell. My mother hid the seriousness of her injury from me for 9 months and in October, she fell ill and I called an ambulance. She is diabetic and where she stubbed her toe had not only never completely healed, but had gotten infected. The infection spread to her blood and nearly killed her. She spent two weeks in the hospital and another two at a nursing home for rehab. She came home to a brand new wheelchair ramp just in time for Thanksgiving. I should mention here that while we were waiting for the ambulance, my doctor called to say they need to see me. Long story short, I'm in congestive heart failure, and would be needing the a fore mentioned surgery.

A week after Thanksgiving, mother fell ill again. This time it was her heart. Which I'm sure was exasperated by the previous infection. She needed a heart valve replacement. Because of her condition the surgery could not be done here. After another 2 week stay in the hospital, she was sent back to the nursing home to be cared for until the surgery could be scheduled and she was strong enough to survive it. In the meantime, another 3 trips to the hospital for blood transfusions. Another 3 weeks total hospital stay.
Finally, at the end of January everything was in place. She was sent by ambulance to Indianapolis for her surgery, which was performed by the doctor who pioneered the procedure. The procedure went flawlessly, by the way and she was awake, alert and feeling better two hours afterward. Another week in the hospital up there and then another ambulance trip back to the nursing home here.
She has been at the nursing home since for rehab.

Two weeks ago, the insurance company decided that she was ready to return home, which she wasn't and still isn't. They have stopped paying for her care.
Since her ordeal, she isn't able to transfer to her wheelchair on her own nor go to the toilet herself, and cannot return home until she is.
Now that the insurance has stopped paying, it's costing $251 a day for her care.

The only reason I can afford this big house is because we've always split the expenses. Starting next month, her Social Security and pension checks will go to the nursing home and I cannot afford the house on my own.

I've maxed out and defaulted on all my credit cards. Sold off most of my car collection, the '74 Mercury and '78 Lincoln are gone, the Cutlass is for sale leaving me with just the '87 Mercury and the van, which I haven't registered yet and I'm keeping as a "hidden asset" because I'm filing bankruptcy.

I know some are asking why I bought the van with all this going on, well... If she does get to come back home, I need a vehicle that can transport her in her wheelchair so this kind of shit never happens again. She almost died twice and we're half a million dollars in debt because she didn't want to pay for an ambulance or wheelchair transport when she fell.
And if she doesn't come home, I'll loose my house, but with a van I'll never be homeless...

All because of a fucking stubbed toe...

I am so sorry. It is shocking how quickly things can go downhill. Insurance companies SUCK. At least you still have a cat to hug.
