Hello my friends.

I've got an .ape file and a cue sheet and want to cut it into separate files. Normally that's no problem.

Normally I do it this way: I use EAC and I convert the ape file into wav, open the cue sheet with the editor and change the line with .ape into .wav, so that the file and the description are the same. And then I can cut it. So this is not the problem.

I did it with the cue file I’ve got too but it does not work. I get a reply there’s an error in the sheet. What could it be? Do I have to download the monkey-program and are there some cue sheets that work with some but not with other programs?

Does the .cue play for example in foobar or some other music players?

In this case it will be easy to cut the .ape file using foobar then you can convert each single track into the format you desire (btw .ape is a very good lossless format)

For storage I use flac or ape - in single files. :) Yes, the cue sheet plays with my player (plays with VLC Player). Don't know foobar, whenever I have to cut, I use audiacity. So I could cut it by hand if nothing else works.

I've compared it to other working cues and I can't find any difference. Could there be a mistake with the times?

Foobar is an excellent music player for windows, fully customizable, cristal clear sound, you can do everything with it, if the .cue plays in it then you don't have to cut the .ape file manually, foobar will do it for you, give it a try ;)

Thanks. I installed it. :)

But where is the function to cut the file in pieces? (I do not just want to be able to play the cd but to have separate files in the end).

edit2: aaah, some right hand clicks have led me to the answer. :)

Thank you bafm. :)

This is a .cue loaded in my foobar, you will have to right click the album title then you choose "convert", you can convert each single track in waw or other formats there are many options, please note that if you want to convert in waw you will need to find the wawpack.exe, if you need it you can download it here.

As edited above... in the meantime I have found the function you mentioned. Just three clicks, 30 seconds and the problem is solved!

Thank you very much, I'll also give the player. I still use an old winamp version and wanted to change to a comfortable player that supports flac etc. anyway.

I can't remember if it natively support the .ape format or if you need the plugin, just in case here you have the link to download it

Since I had ajusted everything to wav-files instead of the ape anyway I used the wav and splitted it to wav which I will convert to flac now.

It's that a wonderful new world with all those different sorts of files? :D

Lossless is always the best choice, I use the mp3 format only for my portable devices even if it's probably the worse lossy format!

Musepack is for example much better, sadly it isn't supported by any portable music player :(
