This is a "touchy" question for me to answer and I will explain why. In my opinion, I see this as half and half due to the fact that in the gay porn industry, there are many performers who are redeeming themselves so to speak as gay for pay as their pass card for performing in these videos. Then, you have mainstream male performers who are gay, and yet, to be accepted and approved of by the mass media, they stay closeted and produce an mimage that puts them in a better perspective with their supporters and the industry as well. Those performers that have came out of the closet has done it and the point of being financially stable within their personal life that it doesn't matter but prior to them coming out, they consistently denied reports or accusations of being gay. Therefore, with that being said, as I heard Joan Rivers say several times that there are many male performers who are looked upon by the female population as the ultimate hunks whereas in the private lives, they are closeted gays who hires "beards" to accompany them to events for image purposes and then go off with their bfs secretly thereafter.
