"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

On this most special day, I share with you all a special song.

This song's help, unbeknownst to most, played a huge part in acknowledging the birthday of a man who helped us all realize the beauty of equality and helping all of us; every creed and every walk of life; every man, woman and child. This is more than just a "day off"; this is a day of love, celebration and a continued movement toward peace.

With the utmost respect, I wish a happy birthday to Dr. Martin Luther King. We have come far, but we still have so long to go. Rest in peace always.

Feel free to share your thoughts here, guys.

With love,
Jonny Fantastico

Even though it's not something that has affected me personally, plus we never had quite the extreme situation here that there once was in the USA at the time, but his "Dream" speech always sends shivers. It's pure poetry. I like good speeches anyway, but he was a master and being such a great orator meant he could get his message out and that message still lives on !

What a lot of people forget is that Martin Luther King was deeply against the Vietnam war and similar racist, despotic US foreign policy as well as the economic policies which kept his own people in desperate poverty (he was also against corporal punishment being used on children.) Of course it is good to celebrate him, but I think it is best to take in the full extent of his politics rather than try to hammer him into the sort of apolitical US identity politics that is the mainstream today, which he probably wouldn't agree with.
