DVD Ripping Software

Can someone offer any good programs for ripping DVDs to AVI? I have been using DVDFab but it started giving me an "invalid floating point operation" error message.

I tried to go back to previous versions but they ALL say they have expired...

This is turning out to be the most horrid experience for me, LOL! I tried ripping the movie and the sound is out of sync. I tried ripping an episode of the series and it only rips half of it! What gives?! LOL.
