Hi Hammer...I haven't sold in quite a while but my good friend in CA does and has for like 12 years now and he's only 24...lol. He sells mostly antiques, retro items/clothing or almost anything he thinks will sell from garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores, estate sales, etc. At times he sells a ton. Anyway, I asked about your question and he said...
1) sell a few things so you get favorable feedback...make it small things since most people wont buy anything "major" without some feedback and the more good feedback you get the more likely your stuff will get bid up. (do whatever it takes to avoid negative feedback)
2) Definitely should have a picture. But dont need more than one since it costs you...
3) Make the description short but sweet and give it some pizazz..as he said if he has a cool shirt he'll say...""This shirt is hot!! A must-have for the summer!!...in his words..be puffy...lol. :thumbs up: Make sure you do spell check and use words that can be searched..i.e. name brand, design, etc.
4) Start pricing lower than higher. more people will be inclined to bid once you get the first bid and you're more inclined to get the first bid with a lower price. he said sometimes you get screwed on an item but its worth it in the end.
5) Use PAYPAL as an option for payment
6) dont use a reserve price unless its an expensive item
7) do 10 day auctions and have them end on a saturday or sunday between 5 pm and 9pm. so in other words start it on wed or thur so you get 2 full weekends for people to search
8) Make sure its packaged good. he said its why most people end up bitching X(
He had to run but he never did the wholesale thing but he said its tough cause of right now theres so much of everything and with the economy the sales suck. But if you can find something thats "needed" like cheap reading glasses, printer ribbons, razor blades, then it might work...but its alot of work.
Anyhoozle...hope that helps. Let me know what/when you're selling...I love to buy!!!
