I'm also a FileServe user, and noticed that the "earnings" tab had disappeared, so did a bit of hunting, and found this article which is copied word for word

-----------------

Just a quick update guys, as you all know the owners of Megaupload have been indicted by the FBI and the United States, but Just a few hours ago, Fileserve pulled its affiliate program. Thats right Fileserve affiliate program is gone! Some users report all their files are gone, while others earnings are missing.

No more Fileserve money

Actually they removed the whole earnings tab. At a webmaster forum, Wjunction.com, Fileserve uploaders were complaining that Fileserve didn't pay out their money before they shut down.

Thats right, if you had money in your fileserve account, it's gone forever! Some uploaders reported losing hundreds of dollars, while myself, I only lost about 1 dollar.

Just goes to show that you can never trust a filehost, not even fileserve, because if they get in hot water they will steal your money from your account and close the affiliate program. They didn't even post anything to users at all (probably because they are paranoid with the recent Megaupload bust)

Did you lose any money from fileserve? If you did post it here or your opinions. The least fileserve could of done is warn their users, or at least attempt a payout so uploaders can receive their money.

What is in the future for file hosting and uploading for money? Only time will tell!

I'm not sorry about this at all. The uploading for money has ruined the sharing-what-you-like aspect that used to be the norm. We now have mass posters who don't care what they post, aren't even interested in the material they post as long as they can get as many downloads as possible.

We get the same videos posted time after time on these payout hosts. Might sound odd, but I'm against mass piracy like that, but people sharing and discussing a few personal likes, although piracy I agree, is a much lower key level, simply ripping everything you can, like The Borg assimilating everything in their path, is a very different matter.

If it wasn't for these pay out sites I'm quite sure the low key happy sharing we once had would have continued without any fuss.

Perhaps we may return to a period of less, but better quality, posts by fans instead of the factory farm type postings we've had . More does not equal better!

I could not agree more. I remember ages ago when there was none of this paying you to have people download your files. I remember the RapidShare days when they had something, but only to purchase their services, ie to continue your premium membership. I used to make just enough to pay for another month every month.

Yes I also use HotFile and I will admit I make some money on that service, but not HUGE amounts like some people say. And the money that did mount up I used to get more solar panels for my solar installation.

Then I went to FileServe. Yes again I made some money there, but not masses. I did request a pay out once, but it never came to my PayPal account. Then I did another one several months later and again never received any more, so just let it accumulate. Actually it was a good indicator for me to see how much was been downloaded. I did buy a six month subscription with what I earnt, so good to go till May time.

I can agree with Xman. Now that people are not earning from such services maybe the amount of work will go down but the quality of work will hopefully improve.

Just my two cents on the matter:

Actually these affiliate paying hosts have catapulted this board and its main site (planetsuzy) to popularity. Because of the amount of uploads and the competition between uploaders, you'll find gems upon gems of treasure here that you can't find in P2P. In all honesty, if this board only allowed Rapidshare, Mediafire and Megaupload, a lot of uploaders would take their stuff elsewhere - just like what happened to a certain forum. And even if these paying hosts didn't sprout like shrooms on Snoop's backyard, I'd like to believe that there would still be mass piracy - technology is fast changing and there are more and more people learning that porn can be downloaded for free :)

re

I think some ppl will need to get a real job soon

Fortunately I "lost" only 4 dollars or so :shh: my FServe account ends on January 24th and i will not pay 55euros for another year if i dunno if that service remains. I'm not a cash whore and i don't post for becoming rich like some other elements here on GH and other crazier places ^^ but i want to get atleast the money back for the filehosters and the VPN service i use and my ISP costs mabe :p

I'll go to Oron too who gifts me one year? C:C

edit:
seems lots of my files there are unavailable now for whatever reasons

Now you've hit the nail on the head!

Piracy for profit has not been a positive development for anyone.

As a former adult webmaster and current member of quite a few adult entertainment industry bodies.... am I the ONLY one here to see's the IRONY in the "oh my god...someone's STOLEN my STOLEN money!" complaint?

Best of luck recovering it... You will probably not do as well as the owners of the copyright content who I am sure will now start to see better returns on THEIR investments..

Can you blame these online file locker sites for pulling the plug on their affiliate schemes? Suddenly discovering that they are 'bang to rights' and can no longer disclaim all knowlege of what their services have been used for?

Come on guys.... I'll be honest... If I had an affiliate account with ANY of these file locker type sites.... (ANY of them... Not just MegaUpload)... I'd be more concerned about the companies financials ending-up in the hands of the authorities... then maybe a knock on the door.... than with a few dollars, that weren't TRULY mine anyway being lost?

But isn't this making the argument (against) the file locker sites stronger still?

To ADMIT that these affiliate schemes have 'catapulted this board to popularity', (or made piracy WORSE, depending where you stand on the issue), isn't that playing into the hands of those who claim the wholesale mass 'rape' of the industry?

It's like some of the features used on this very board.... Allowing someone to eventually see just how many times someone has been 'thanked' for providing an illegally hosted video!

Whilst I can see a valid argument for 'remaining small' when your activities are at best questionable, getting TOO BIG and broadcasting your 'achievements' from the rooftops is surely the best way of bringing everything down?

If 'proof' for this argument were needed, you only have to look at MegaUpload?

To Xman101 and any other old-timer staff members who were here when I spearheaded the campaign to ban HotFile because they paid for downloads (only to have almost every other host follow suit...) and I said that allowing members to profit from piracy would open the door to a whole mess of trouble...

I TOLD YOU SO!!! :p

Since this has now become one of the largest gay forums on the net, I have to wonder if receiving all that income from Oron to keep us running still seems like a good idea...

Well I don't disagree with you Brmstn, the problem was that as much as we discouraged it there were too many hosts doing it.

It was never intended, or my wish, for a "hobby" site to turn into a profit making venture for some. My favorite area here has always been the chat side, but sadly that wouldn't survive on its own!

I know that we all tried, and like I said once everyone else started paying out for downloads, it was a lost cause... And I know that, for the most part, you supported me in this and many other matters.

I just wanted to point out that this was one of many problems that I saw developing from the start and warned of the potential consequences. That so far, most of my predictions have been spot on.

And I hope this gives cause for the current staff and their overseers to review some of the concerns I expressed while I was amongst them and reconsider their positions. Particularly, on that last, dire prediction I made...

The bad economy and rampant unemployment forced some people into filesharing for simple survival. I have a friend in Spain which has something like 25 percent unemployment for people in their twenties. He couldn't get a job to save his life so he started making money filesharing.

Their servers are not in the US.

Their TLD is US based though, along with their payment method (paypal). Though I think they would still go on, Russians are sturdy :p
