Firefox 3.6

Anyone else having issues with this release.
I've been a big proponent of Firefox and have always used it.
Something with this release seems to have gone awry.
The damn thing freezes every few minutes for 10-15 seconds.
I use Windows XP.
I talked to the computer guy at work today, and he did say 3.5 and 3.6 have issues with suddenly taking all the cpu cycles" or something like that, and taking more and more memory, but not letting it go. Like the old, old stuff with memory leaks.

Unless I find a solution I think I will have to uninstall this and go back a few version.

Just wondering if others have had issues and perhaps there's simple solution that I'm missing.~X(~X(~X(

Yeah I've been having a LOT of issues with FF lately. I stick to Opera now, I really find it the easiest to use really. A good balance between tools and speed that really works for me ^_^

I agree, the only thing I find a little bit frustrating is that if I block third parts cookies I've problems to log in for example with Gmail

Well right now I'm using IE till I figure it out. Tried it again today and it brings the whole system to a damn stand still.
And to make matters worse, I thought something else was going on in my computer, so I started slowing turning stuff off at startup to try to narrow down what it was. Now I don't remember all I don't have loading. OH, WELL!.
I know it's not a virus or anything bad at least.
Just FireFox, and I really loved it compared to IE.

Sounds like you've fallen out of love, but maybe it's only a temporary spat. ;)

What I've got now is the following.
After it's up for a while 10-15 minutes, it is suddenly taking 400,000-500,000K of memory and every 30 seconds or so it takes 100% of the CPU cycles for 5-10 seconds. BUT WHY!!!!!
All the searches I find about this on the internet are "resolved" by Firefox and closed, yet they never posted a fix.
WTF
There must be some setting somewhere I need to change but can't figure it out. And when I close all the firefox windows, it's still running using resources.

Have you installed some addons? Sometimes a great number of addons can cause the problems you describe.

I simply allow all cookies. Then I wrote a script to run when I feel the need which deletes them all, copies my essential base set to where (in my case) Safari expects it, and Bob's your uncle.

I have the same addons as I did before. Firefox just has a pop up window that says, "new version available" and if you click it, it just takes care of everything.
Maybe this weekend I will completely uninstall it and reinstall, and slowly add the addons to see if that's the issue.
But from what I find on the Internet, this isn't that rare of a problem, but no one seems to know how to fix, and the programmers at Firefox, just ignore the complaints. I wish there was a way to just go back to an older version, but I can't even find those now to download.

My version of Firefox is stripped bare, no add-ons whatsoever and I still get the problem. So I'm pretty sure that's not the case. I just think they've majorly fucked up the program, left in a memory leak that they can't pin down and are just resolving everything to sweep it under the carpet and not lose more users.

Like I said - refuse all updates! If something works there is no need to update !

I've taken that stance with Windows XP. I'm not updating till
I absolutely have to, and then I will still be kicking and screaming!!

OH, great!! Thank You!
That is what I'm looking for. An old version.
I've been searching but unable to find any. Every place I looked showed old versions, but when you tried to download you got the newest.
I will have to uninstall tomorrow and reinstall.

I was almost to the point of burying my old friend.
Thanks again.

You can try uninstall the addons one by one trying firefox everytime, maybe one of them is incompatible with the new version, or is bastard inside  :butslap:

If you're interested here you can find the older versions of firefox:

you gotta give windows 7 a try..its pretty nifty and no bugs thus far. Besides sooner or later you'll have to switch over...might as well get a head start :p.

Yes, I know. But quite frankly I'm sick of giving microsoft so much money for products they consistently claim are so great and secure but aren't. Then you have to spend so much more money for other programs to keep Windows working properly and stay protected.
I've been playing with Linux. But there's a lot to learn there, and I don't have that much time...
Right now I have Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
I did use Suse for a while, and have played with Red Hat.
